  5. "Bunnings sells timber sourced from NSW Forestry Corporation via a number of local suppliers."

"The state-owned forestry corporation has been convicted of more than a dozen environmental offences and is facing charges on dozens more. A judgment in the land and environment court last year found the agency was likely to reoffend and had poor prospects of rehabilitation."

"But The Wilderness Society (TWS) complaint raises concerns that the agency has retained this certification, despite its convictions for environmental offences."

"Prof David Heilpern, a former magistrate and the dean of law at Southern Cross University who has likened the NSW forestry agency to a “criminal organisation”, said he hoped the TWS complaint would be taken seriously."

    #Trump admin says #WhiteHouse #ballroom construction is a matter of #NationalSecurity

The Trump admin said in a court filing Monday that the president’s White House ballroom construction project must continue for unexplained national security reasons & because a preservationists’ organization that wants it stopped has no standing to sue.

  14. It would be hard to think of a worse choice for BLM director than Steve Pearce. If his oil industry ties and voting record weren't enough to disqualify him from managing over 200 million acres of your land, his history of siding with violent extremists should be.

From Malheur to January 6th, Pearce has consistently embraced anti-government extremism to protect oil, gas and cattle interests.

Everyone with a Senator, but especially those with one who sits on the Energy and Natural Resources Committee — this one is worth a call.

  18. @Qldaah Turning public beaches into cash cows for private operators, where’s the benefit to Australia? Locals lose access, the environment cops the damage, and some developer pockets the profits. Monetising public land with no return to the public is a racket, not policy.

  19. So the plan is to “ease parking pressure for parents”… and then what? Hand over public land so a private school can eventually expand and develop it too? Classic case of privatisation by stealth. Once it’s gone, it’s gone.

  20. The impacts of fossil fuel emissions are gnawing on Australia's coastline

"Australia's exposure to current and future risks from the sea, including coastal erosion, king tides and rising sea levels, was "very high", The Insurance Council of Australia.

"Sea level rise caused by climate change would mean the issue was not going away, and Australians needed to consider what we valued about our coastline."

"Why a seawall might not protect both beaches and homes from coastal erosion...We'll end up with a giant wall around our beaches, or around our whole coastline. That's not saving the landscape, that's saving the infrastructure. We've got to slow down development and look at what we value about the beach."

Professor Kennedy "said governments would need to consider buying back beachfront land and rehabilitating it, to protect both infrastructure and the beach."

  25. If #GOP get their way ( and they usually do) western half of #USA undergoing most massive #PublicLand auctions in history of country. #DrumpfAdmin courting #timber, #oil & #mining magnates to off load huge tracts of #BLM & #forest land including acreage previously protected as parkland.

A US president’s power to create & undo #NationalMonuments under the 1906 #AntiquitiesAct is among the White House’s “most sweeping unilateral powers,” the DOJ said in a slip opinion.

The opinion forms the DOJ’s rationale for abolishing national monuments, many of which have been declared by presidents to protect large swaths of #PublicLand from development.
