#publicfunding — Public Fediverse posts

As brilliant board of #BayArea Rapid Transit begs for voters to approve a new #salestax increase of more public money to support its mission, its important to note how mgmt has never found a tax dollar it couldn't squander.

#BART for example increased spending 42% since pandemic, even though it's running less trains & taking in far less money. Does the agency really need vast millions in more #money monthly or just prudent fiscal management?

"On #openprotocols, individual providers may address threats within their own systems, but lack the network-wide capacity to address coordinated activity across infrastructures or protocols. This is a gap that commercial actors have little incentive to address…
This points to the safety and integrity of the #publicsquare being coordinated as a critical #publicfunction, backed by #publicfunding. The practical implication is a core of publicly provisioned infrastructure."

😏 While acknowledging the need for #publicfunding, there is concern about big #techcompanies offloading their #responsibilities and the potential for the fund to become a subsidy for them.
