CW: Note: Wikipedia @ 25: Presto Card
The Presto Card is Toronto and the surrounding area's equivalent of London's Oyster Card. I enjoyed learning about it, but I don't think it justifies a whole blog post of what-I-learned.

Getting the train to Carlisle rather than driving because it's the right thing to do, but I don't know why I should: nearly £20 for my return ticket, but driving would cost me less than £1 of electricity. Even if I had to pay £10 for parking, I'd still save enough for a couple of pints down the pub later.
I know I have to pay for the car, the charger, etc. but I'm paying for that anyway.
Nationalise the lot and subsidise it.

This is a good step forward, but not enough according to the recent threads from ardent train travelers, pointing out the flaws in this plan.
The biggest problems not addressed by this initiative, however, are the governments' kerosine subsidies and their limited and limiting budgets for train travel.

Continuing my #Wikipedia25 celebrations, the second Random Daily Article I read was about the Argo Wilis, which lead me to learning an unexpected amount about Rail Transport in Indonesia!

Now taking bets: will Hell freeze over before the Box Hill Bus Station escalator is fixed?
Apparently nobody knows when this will be back in service. Transport Victoria don't know and the shopping centre have no timeline.

I can't stress to you just how much I hate cars. Yes, I am the kind of person who will end up in a video with me shouting at drivers.

#WorldCup: Bonanza for #FIFA, aka the #mafia.
#USA #Publictransport prices exposed by #WorldCup, as #football fans to be charged over $150 for an 18-mile #train ride from Penn station, 11x the normal price. #FIFA refuses to cough up anything. A last minute independent commercial #sponsorship brings the price down to... $98. Meanwhile, the 2026 World Cup is poised to become FIFA's most lucrative tournament, at... $13bn. Yes, BILLION.

Decades of thinking that buses are only for poor people has turned us into a nation of poor people with no buses.

One thing that still feels strange to me in Japan:
Staying seated on the bus until it stops and the door opens.
I've been conditioned differently for over 40 years...I understand the idea behind it, but I keep catching myself wanting to get up before the bus stops...

For those under car-centric governments that usually underfund public transit and cycle infrastructure, it seems like now is a good time to be on their asses about investment in those things being a national security issue.
Having transportation independence can be a national security issue that you can pitch to those who don't give a rat's ass about sustainability (as much as they *should* be caring about sustainability...)

Anyways, now that I've settled in #Seattle (pun not intended) I must try the #transit. And yeah, I've taken the Crosslake a few times now... It's hard to get a good picture on the bridge itself though, so here's the newer train (which I like more than the older one).

Coming up to the one week anniversary since the Box Hill Bus Station escalator broke down.
Again.
No signs of it being fixed and no communication from Transport Victoria or Vicinity Centres.
