@WarnerCrocker I think public oaths and affirmations — such as in formally taking a public office, or in wedding vows — and other ceremonies — such as graduation ceremonies and funerals — are important and worth doing. Humans are social animals and live in societies of their own making, and such ceremonial observances contribute to the shaping and functioning of societies.
