#Ferrodraco was an #anhanguerid #pterosaur from #Australia that lived during the middle #Cretaceous. It was described with help from Adele Pentland, and its name translates to “iron dragon”.

In the process of moving all of my game servers hosted on pterodactyl from one wing to another. I am doing that so I can recreate the original wing with a different internal domain name.

Two tips for server transfers:
1. make sure you have enough space for everything and then some
2. create the paths and assign mount locations to your new wing

There are probably more, but those are the only ones that caused failed transfers for me.

For more than 40 years, #Eric #Owen #Moss #Architects and developers #Samitaur #Constructs have been creating a compilation of more than 30 rugged, deconstructed structures at #Hayden #Tract, a former heavy manufacturing hub in #Culver #City, California.

The stream of experimental edifices—many filled by creative and tech firms—have short, catchy names like #Pterodactyl, #Beehive, #Dune, #Stealth, #Waffle, and #Umbrella.

As the area has filled up, it’s begun expanding eastward (along with a number of unrelated projects) across Ballona Creek into Los Angeles, where yet another mini city is starting to aggregate near the La Cienega Expo Line light rail station, which opened in 2012.

By far the biggest building of the bunch (its height allowance came thanks to the addition of transit in the area) is the recently completed (W)rapper, a 17-story, 235-foot-tall tower that initially gained approval back in 2001 but was delayed by a series of setbacks that included the 2008 recession and a multi-year peer review necessitated by the fact that the planning department had basically never seen anything like it

Retro SciFi Film of the Week…

Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet (1965)

Shortly after Sputnik but before astronauts walked on the Moon, the Soviets made a science fiction film called Paneta Bur (1962). Roger Corman bought the rights to the film, sliced and diced it, dubbed it, added a few scenes and the result was Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet, released in ‘65.

The plot, the pace, just about everything is incomprehensible in this mess, but the cool part is all the 1960’s scifi props from the original Soviet film (which is probably what Corman was after when he bought it). It’s got a 60’s concept car with big fins, a Robbie Robot knockoff, reel-to-reel tape recorders, astronauts with fishbowl helmets using gunpowder pistols… it’s got just about everything you’d expect from a 60’s scifi film (see the parody trailer for some examples). ...and of course all of the factual science errors like gravity in a spaceship, campfires and animals on a planet with little oxygen, Venus is 200 million miles away, sounds in space and much more.

Corman made a sequel to this film, Voyage to the Planet of Prehistoric Women (1968), which used much of the scenes from this film, but also added some women on the planet.

You don’t want to miss this one (unless you have anything else to do).
