Her father said much of her concern came from believing her sister and father would not go to heaven because they did not attend the same church as her.
"An expert witness called by the father’s side analyzed the church's sermons and testified that the teachings likely posed a psychological risk to the child. The district court accepted that assessment and granted the father final decision‑making authority on the child’s religious education."

"The court relied heavily on testimony from a self-described 'cult expert' who labeled the church’s teachings on spiritual warfare, fallen angels, and doctrinal certainty as 'cultic' and potentially harmful. On that basis, the court awarded the father final authority over whether the child may attend services or even read the Bible during when with her mother.

How does one recognize whether or not what one experienced was narcissistic abuse?
It's not like one can ask the hypothetical abuser. They will deny it. Is learning about the patterns of narcissistic abuse and subsequently recognizing how they show up in one's lived experience the best one can do?
I find that a very unsatisfactory conclusion but it does seem like the best one can do. I probably lived in a relationship with at least narcissistic abuse patterns. And the unsolvable ambiguity of it all bothers me.

Now I can see that he knew that I was ambitious and excited about degrees and careers and volunteer work and language learning and physical fitness and healthy eating and gatherings with friends. But I didn't know that he wasn't.
He knew that he lacked any and all confidence; that he was deliberately cruel to me so that I wouldn't excel, while I blindly believed that he'd come with me into a bright future.
Eventually I got tired of his cowardice and left.
