Yesterdays discovery: a colony of bagworm larvae on the handrail of a footbridge. These are young caterpillars living in a case made of silk, sand grains and bits of lichen and moss. About 3-4 mm.

Iflg. #Naturbasen er den kun registeret fire steder i Danmark. Et af dem er i min have, hvor den forekommer i et pænt antal — formentlig pga. planten Blodrød Storkenæb (#Geranium sanguineum), som larverne angiveligt godt kan lide at gnaske på.
Så vidt jeg har forstået, er det et vingeløst hunmøl på billedet. Hannerne har vinger og flyver omkring. Jeg ved ikke om jeg har set en sækbærerhan, men hvis der er mange hunner, må der vel osse være nogle hanner i nærheden…
Grønspættebogen har kun ganske få oplysninger om kræet:

I just found this little bag worm that’s been living in my room. I feel honoured that it’s been using my detritus to build it’s home, but also slightly worried about it eating my house plants.
