Eight deputies were elected for the upstart far right #FvD in 2019. Seven then left the party, joining #JA21 or GO and/or going independent. The only one to stay, who'd been number 7 on the FvD list, is also the only one who now got re-elected. But he's refusing the seat: says the #Netherlands is no longer his country and he's leaving politics and moving to Spain.

The once famously staid Dutch voters have become as fickle as the country's weather, and the cost is seen on boring occasions like the goodbyes of provincial deputies. #Flevoland has 40 of them; 28 are leaving. After the previous elections 28 left too.

Tried to create a typological map about the #Netherlands provincial elections, based solely on the ranking among centre-left parties.

BBB, PVV + FvD voters overwhelmingly think so, as do two-thirds of SP, JA21 + SGP voters.
Aside from the SP, left-wing voters are surprisingly lenient, perhaps wary of what new elections would bring.

Shocker: clear majorities of VVD (65%) and CDA (69%) voters would rather see the government seek a Senate majority "over the right" with the BBB, while 81% of D66 voters wants to seek it "over the left," with PvdA and GL. Christian Union voters divided.
But the question has become more complicated since updated projections see the BBB do even better and D66 a bit worse, meaning you'd now need not just PvdA and GL but Volt as well for an alternative majority.

Labour (PvdA) is still far from young, but it escaped the extremely old age skew of Germany's SPD in this election (unlike the SP).
That seems noteworthy when it very much did *not* in the last national elections (see the two 2021 charts and 2017 table below). A by-product of collaborating with GreenLeft?

Still difficult to wrap my mind around: Labour voters are higher-educated than not just CDA, but VVD voters too (though obv not as much as Green Left voters).

I don’t see BBB imploding as fast as FvD; they’ve taken care to pick people who will turn up to meetings. But they don’t want Brussels or Den Haag to tell them what to do and they don’t want to compromise.
This is going to be as much fun as watching 10 ton of slaughterhouse waste lurch out of a truck onto the motorway. (2/2)

I'm missing the ability at https://app.nos.nl/nieuws/ps2023/ to create similar maps for parties that aren't new — for those, it seems, you can only generate (equally pretty) gains/losses maps.
But a fun thing with the latter is when you can clearly see very province-specific trends, even in our era of nationalised politics. Case in point: the Green Left in Zuid-Holland.

Populist-right Fortuynism had its heart in Rotterdam and Randstad suburbs, but the next 20 years saw what Josse de Voogd, I think, called "the peripherisation" of the far right protest vote (https://twitter.com/almodozo/status/1636151591081242624.
But just like the FvD in 2019, #JA21 now reclaims much of the original Fortuynist territory, though likely with a more middle class flavour than the LPF had. Maps generated on https://app.nos.nl/nieuws/ps2023/

The Labour Party #PvdA suffered significant losses in traditional northern heartlands due to the BBB surge, but gained 4% in Amsterdam — an inverse pattern from 2021. Did cooperation with the GreenLeft make Labour seem a little sexier again? 😉
