It served Prypiat residents and workers, it became a primary site of emergency care during the 1986 disaster.
The first firefighters from Reactor No. 4 were brought here for decontamination. Their radioactive uniforms left in the basement, which remains sealed due to the contamination.
The upper floors contain a maternity ward with baby cots & toy left behind.

Boxes of gas masks lay scattered in various areas of the school complex. Several classrooms still contain original desks, drawings and tattered textbooks, and occasional photos of schoolchildren can also still be found.

El Día Internacional de Recordación del Desastre de Chernóbil se celebra cada 26 de abril, fecha que coincide con el aniversario del accidente nuclear ocurrido en 1986 en la central de Chernóbil, cerca de la ciudad de Prípiat, Ucrania12345678.Origen y propósito:
La Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas proclamó este día el 8 de diciembre de 2016, conmemorándose oficialmente desde 2017. El objetivo es recordar uno de los mayores desastres nucleares de la historia, concienciar sobre sus consecuencias a largo plazo y rendir homenaje a las víctimas y a las comunidades afectadas. Además, busca mantener viva la memoria de las lecciones aprendidas en materia de seguridad nuclear y desarrollo sostenible13678.El desastre de Chernóbil: Resumen
- Fecha del accidente: 26 de abril de 1986.
- Lugar: Central nuclear de Chernóbil, Prípiat, Ucrania (entonces parte de la Unión Soviética).
- Causa: Una explosión durante una prueba de seguridad fallida, atribuida a errores humanos y fallos en el diseño del reactor.
- Consecuencias inmediatas:
- Liberación de aproximadamente 200 toneladas de material radiactivo a la atmósfera, propagando una nube radiactiva sobre gran parte de Europa del Este y Central2456.
- 31 muertes directas en el momento del accidente y la exposición de cerca de 600,000 «liquidadores» (trabajadores de emergencia) a altos niveles de radiación68.
- Impacto a largo plazo:
- Casi 8,4 millones de personas expuestas a la radiación en Ucrania, Bielorrusia y Rusia6.

After many hours of fighting with my computer and several failed attempts at different ways of approaching this, I finally finished my #30DayMapChallenge day 5 - #Ukraine.
The black map shows the streets of #Chornobyl, and the navy map shows the edges of the #Prypiat River nearby. I couldn't figure out a way to overlay them without getting photoshop involved so I'd appreciate any advice on that front.
