  1. No Safe Distance
Too close, badly aligned, bodies everywhere. The street occasionally gets the composition right by refusing to behave.
    Series: Provoke.

  2. Be careful what you wish for.
I watched the short #cDrama #Provoke and loved the chemistry of the leads and the genuine agency each had. The FL was independent & played a fully equal part in the outworking of the story. they had such strong on-screen chemistry I was disappointed at the lack of skinship. So I started #FallInYou for the FL lead, Li Mu Chen The opening credits promise plenty of romantic action , but at 12/24 the FL has had zero agency. The ML has had to do everything for her.
I don't get any real sense of romantic chemistry between the leads, And the very attractive Miss Li has been painted like a pallid doll in an attempt to make her look a couple of years younger than the ML instead of six years older as she actually is. Throw in a wrist grab followed by a forced kiss, and this was a drop

The moral of the story? When you get a smoking hot couple with real chemistry on screen and genuine agency for the female lead, don't whinge when they don't kiss.

  3. 8/10 for short #cDrama #Provoke - intelligent writing, an FL with real agency, satisfying wrap. I would not NORMALLY do this but I actually marked it down for an utterly criminal lack of osculation: After the blood & death of the final few, we DESERVED more, ESPECIALLY from a SHORT, dammit! The show OPENED with a kiss, and that was it. We wuz robbed!

  4. One thing I absolutely LOVE in any Drama - #cDrama, #jDrama, #kDrama is when the FL has REAL agency. In the short #cDrama #Provoke, she really does. The clip here is from episode 18/25 and she's already spent the whole Drama to this point proving the point she's making.

Another thing that makes me happy is when a Drama addresses a possible flaw in the story. In this case, I kept wondering "WHY would the villain keep that incriminating evidence?" In episode 19, the ML asks that very question. Kudos to the writer(s)

  5. Short #cDrama get a lot of flak for poor quality writing, unrealistic stories and a focus on anatomical aesthetics. But the good ones can be very good stories too.

I'm currently watching #Provoke and although the leads are aesthetically very appealing the story itself is solid. It's interesting and what has really impressed me as I near two-thirds is that it makes sensible and credible use of a trope that I loathe. Kindergarten kismet. The two leads knew each other well as children and the revenge mystery build-up of the story means that they're coming back together is not about fated insta-love but instead makes perfect sense for the structure of the plot.

  6. The City Buttoned Wrong.

Ten Provoke photographs from one week of hard light, worn pavements, civic absurdity, and small public failures.

    Not a ranking. An edit.

  7. Pipe Against Granite
    Ricoh GR IV Monochrome
Profile, cap, pipe. The wall dirties everything with a fairly unpleasant honesty.

  8. The stop that does not wait.
    Ricoh GRIV Monochrome.
Blown-out light, three silhouettes, and a pavement with no mercy. The street does not always focus. Sometimes it just pushes.

  9. Star With a Monday Face
    Ricoh GR IV Monochrome
A star too large to work as a head. Hanging eyes, dirty black, clinical white. The portrait does not look: it stands guard.

  10. I would not ask for flying. Too many people already look down on the world and call it perspective.

The superpower I’d want is smaller and more useful: make false words lose their teeth. Slogans, promises, patriotic speeches, spiritual brochures — open your mouth, please.

New StreetSoul note: Peace Has Teeth.

  11. The White Helmet Waits.

The chair is empty, the cutlery is ready, the doorway is black, and the street is overexposed enough to confess nothing.

One still figure. Several blurred excuses.

  12. A blurred figure stands in the frame while the background dissolves into glare, foliage, and broken edges.

What interested me here was the instability of the whole thing: not just motion blur, but the sense that the subject is present and unavailable at the same time. Street photography doesn’t always need clarity. Sometimes it needs friction.

  13. The shadow had better timing than the person.
What interested me wasn’t the step, but the second figure it left on the pavement.
