Just got an email from our daughter's school. A large group of kids walked out in demonstration against ICE. I think the school expects us to punish the kids but I'm going to buy mine ice cream.

A few days ago while discussing our vacation plans, Melissa mentioned New Mexico. She said both Santa Fe and Albuquerque are nice. Ellie says, "Sometimes I'll be quirky" and I started laughing. Melissa just looked at me confused and I told her it was an obscure Simpsons reference and that she's probably my daughter. We Harpers have cracked brains.
Today she was rocking out and singing along with Journey. I said yeah, she's definitely my daughter!

Seeing pictures of Ciaran on his residential, having a fun time, trying archery, rock climbing among other things, cooking s'mores by the fireside brings a smile to my face, give kids like Ciaran a chance and his disability won't stop him giving things a go. #ProudDad moment.

I'm thinking about surprising my daughter with a trip to Blade Show 2026 with part of the vacation money I won. It's held in Atlanta, Georgia each year and is the largest knife show in the world. Probably sounds strange to some but my daughter and I both enjoyed collecting high end knives. Getting different mechanical features and materials used.
It's also only an 8 hour drive so I won't have to fly. Thank the Gods!

The Kershaw went on sale this morning so I pushed the button and ordered it. Now I just have to wait until Christmas for her to open it. Very exciting for me! It's a very high quality tool. My daughter will be able to pass it on to her kids if she chooses to.

My 7-year old collected 32 conkers while we out for a walk this morning (still not quite sure they all fitted into his pockets).
Nerdy dad saw the opportunity to introduce him to basic descriptive statistics. He weighed each conker and I set him up with Numbers on his iPad so he could create his first ever spreadsheet.
He seemed quite comfortable learning about basic functions to work out things like sum, average, min and max.

The base for my stand in my new bee yard. Behind me is 60+ yards of field and then a nice section of old growth forest. I'm not thrilled I have to move my beehives but I couldn't get a better location. My friend is exactly 5 miles from any town or built up area. With many lakes, ponds and creeks in that 5 mile radius.
Well have a wonderful evening friends! I'm hot and tired and owe my daughter a Cold Stone Creamery so I'd better get going. She was a big help.

Most of these I have posted little commentary. But, the linked video had the "Parental Advisory" on the album cover and whoa that takes me back. For us lost youth of the 80's groups like Run-DMC, NWA and the 2 Live Crew were hugely influential. The explicit language, the directness, the underlying message, and yes the INEVITABLE parental headwinds with the "new" attitude we were sporting... oh and our musical tastes". Decades later and when my son really got into rap and hip hop, I played a few of my 12" singles and expected a general mocking of my dated music. What ensued was my son's explanation of how the present day Hip Hop/Rap community would NEVER have evolved without these groups. How courageous to even bring this music to the masses in the 'Just Say No" era. #prouddad

My youngest daughter graduated high school yesterday and it was quite an emotional moment for the both of us. She lost her mom 5-years ago this month and has struggled with and overcame so many things since then. Despite having a rough sophomore year where here grades weren’t the best, she still finished as one of the top students in her class, receiving awards and accolades from the school’s English Department. She will be attending a local university in the fall to study sociology. To say I’m proud of her would be a huge understatement. #graduation2024 #prouddad

Went mid-afternoon to Renaissance and had the theatre to ourselves!
It’s so good! And so much queer representation; on stage, and in interviews.
Saw Shireen in it! She’s in the background when Beyoncé is talking in a planning meeting towards the end of the first hour. I asked her if I missed any other shots, but she said no, she’s very good at avoiding the camera. Plus she has the added advantage that she’s also supervising the edits. :) And she has four credits. Post Producer, Post Supervisor, Additional Editor, and Additional Videography.
