So I listened to a BtB episode about the #ProudBoys, when they were an active public-eye menace
(the ones who don't actually want to punch or be punch seem to have faded, and the others are probably all ICE Thousanaires at the moment)
and their fascination with fictional music is fascinating to me. Two songs in particular, he talked about:
One is from the musical Cabaret, which takes place in Weimar Germany, with the surging Nazi party as omnipresent menacing demons. There is a scene in an outdoor cafe where some young blonde aryan fellow gets up and sings a number called "Tomorrow Belongs To Me," which I'm sure you can watch on Youtube.
It's a good song, showtunewise, and correctly expresses the feeling that such a young man in that time and place would have surging in his heart. As the rest of the patrons all join into a rousing chorale of horror, the film's main characters ("degenerate" artist types, the endangered humans of Weimar) are living in mortal terror of course.
To adopt this song as your own, I mean, it's quintessentially perfect for this generation of fascists; I don't even wanna bother with unpacking it, we all either understand how these pissants operate by now or we don't, and this is pitch perfect, on an ideological level; as they sing it, they are provided with (through the mental processes of Pop Culture irony) an audience of terrified enemies that they will soon crush. The ones in the phantasm are from the movie, but they are merely video store cardboard figures for all of us.
The other one I find even more interesting, though, and if there is undercover footage of the follow, I really really need it. For a PROJECT.
"Proud Of Your Boy," I do not even recall what it's from but I think Alladin? A children's cartoon entertainment whatever the case. As I recall, it's not especially fascist-tinged really, or maybe it is, I do not recall the details. ANYways...
If RE was not the victim of some kind of misinformation when researching the episode, apparently they sing this song at their initiation ceremonies or whatever the fuck they call their basement tennis-racket-guitar concert.
Is there video proof of this, somewhere? Where do I find a lot of footage of fascists being absolutely ridiculous? Need it. Must have. Zathras.
