My morning album today is the solo debut by Sylvain Sylvain who until last night I didn't realize had actually made any solo albums, but I'm really enjoying it. A melding of NY punk with early rock stuff from the 50s and 60s, some great melodies.

Hot take, but John Cale's solo career was consistently better than Lou Reed's. Of course, Lou had individual albums that were better than anything Cale did, but Lou also produced a lot more albums that were straight up pretty bad so it balances out that John was more consistent in his output than Lou ever was.

I am low on caffeine today because I woke up an hour before the neighborhood store opens so I could only consume about 80mgs or so, so my energy this morning is being harvested purely by listening to The Dictators and their surfy junk culture punk.

What a killer happy accident THIS was!I bought this on a whim from a used bin today, simply because it looked super-interesting.
That’s a huge understatement.ZOOM were a #protopunk band from #Toronto #canada in the late #70s , and this collection gathers their entire output as a band.
Sometimes they’re punk, other times straight up #glam (like on the title track), or even infectious #powerpop .
“Massacre At Central High” is a particular treat.
A few weeks ago, I posted an excellent record by a band called The Diodes.
Apparently, some parts of that band came from the defunct ZOOM.
THIS compilation is stellar, and o love finding bands that I’ve never heard of from that far back that I absolutely love.
A+++.Ugly Pop is a great label. This might be the best thing that they’ve put out.
