  1. Critical minerals collide with #tourism in B.C. resort town.

A #Calgary based mining company called West High Yield Resources wants to extract #magnesium ore from Record Ridge, about seven kilometres outside of town, and ship it overseas.

West High Yield holds mineral claims over 8,972 hectares at the site — an area 4.6 times bigger than the city of Victoria. In October 2025, the #BCgovernment approved the company’s #mining permit.

Several #Rossland residents say they have been confounded by what they see as abnormalities in the siting and permitting of the mine. Many have united under the banner of the non-profit Save Record Ridge Action Society ( #SRRAC ).

At one point, WHY Resources sought to remove up to 200,000 tonnes of ore a year, but later reduced that to 63,500 tonnes per year — below the 70,000-tonne limit that often triggers an environmental assessment.

In a May 2025 letter to the province, the #Ktunaxa Nation Council argued alongside SRRAC that the mine footprint only dropped by 5.7 per cent, despite a 68 per cent cut in proposed production.

The stated lower production capacity “masks and understates its true capacity” and environmental footprint, added the nation, arguing it’s designed to avoid initial regulatory hurdles and be scaled up later.

SRRAC requested that Ottawa carry out an environmental review of the Record Ridge mine project.

A report issued last month from the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada rejected that request. It found the mine project did not require federal designation, and that existing laws were enough to manage the potential impacts on fish, migratory birds and Indigenous rights.

  2. *One of my fierce sisters from another mister & fellow land/forest/water protectors, Jocey Alec & her family from #Wetsuweten #FirstNation are in this #documentary.

The #BCNDP & #GovernmentOfCanada are both still trying to criminalize environmental & #IndigenousSovereignty activism. The #BCgovernment created #RCMPCIRG in 2017 to crackdown on protestors. They are strictly a corporate mercenaries branch serving industry interests not public interests. Citizens tax monies are being exploited by BC NDP to pay these militarized thugs to commit violence so #ecocide corporations can profit more.*

Is #Canada at a point of no return, suffering the effects of #ClimateChange and worsening #wildfire seasons? Two controversial pipelines, the #TransMountain Expansion Project #TMX and #CoastalGasLink #CGL are being expanded and threatening the natural home of historically oppressed First Nations in Canada. But several First Nations are leading the fight against these massive #pipelines and becoming key advocates for protecting #nature from climate change.

Being a #LandDefender comes at a cost: harassment, detentions by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police
#RCMP and threats from private security. But, in the face of setbacks, these #Indigenous #activists press on: “We are still fighting. This dance is not over yet.” In this episode, we hear the stories of the #IndigenousCommunities on the receiving end of these huge pipelines and their fight for the protection of both humans and nature.

  3. I don't support any BS industrialized innovations that are only used to make more fast profits for sleazy, greasy ecociders who don't give a fuck about our ecosystems, wildlife, humans or future generations. When you don't work in sustainable ways, when your work involves constantly killing Mother Nature for paycheques - you're going to pay the consequence prices at some point. I hope it is the worst hell on Earth for the ecociders.

You're fucking complicit in killing the very ecosystems that sustain all life on this planet.

#WildFirst or you will all feel more wrath from disrespecting, abusing & exploiting Mother Nature. Nature doesn't give a fuck what your political allegiances are. Your grandkids will loathe your complicity, ecociders & sellout enablers.

  4. If I put caring about people's reactions above my natural born duties to Mother Earth & her needs - I have failed.

Wild First. Or we all tumble down.

This beautiful, ancient yellow #cedar tree has a massive, moss covered trunk. It is estimated at over 500 years old. There are very few #ElderTrees of this scale found outside of protected parks on Southern Vancouver Island now. The few remaining unprotected old growth forest tracts should be conserved for stability & longevity of our wild, ancient ecosystems & for the future generations to enjoy/admire/study.

The need to protect old growth forests has been the case for decades but even more important in present times because of accelerated climate change & the increased greedy desperation of corporate ecociders & our governments who aid/abet the pillaging which destroys wild environments that are essential for humans to sustain our lives on Earth. Valuable medicines are found & several medicines have yet to be found in these old growth, coastal temperate, wild rainforests. We need to protect these ancient forests for the above listed & many more important reasons.

  6. Tsahaukuse, George Quocksister Jr. is a #HereditaryChief of the #Laichkwiltach Nation and the son of Elizabeth and George Quocksister. He is a passionate advocate for the protection of #WildSalmon as a crucial part of his culture and the food security of his people, and is working to ban the practice of #SalmonFarming on the west coast. He lives in Campbell River, BC.

This is from our 2020 #DiscoveryIslands flotilla protest & restocking patrol with George & 2 other BC Indigenous Chiefs(Darren Blaney & Bill Wilson) from North Island regions.

The fight to get fish farms out of BC waters started in the late 80s & continues.

  7. With #Namgis #FirstNation crew at 2022 #WildSalmon #flotilla #protest in #Tofino. This flotilla was led by Namgis Chief, Ernest Alfred - in the middle of photo.

Our boat captain is on far right, Willie Mitchell, Indigenous former #NHL player. I was invited to join Namgis leaders boat for this flotilla.

  8. #FlashbackFriday
    2020.

I was invited to go on a #flotilla #protest led by #IndigenousChiefs & leaders from the North Island in late 2019 - we went in March of 2020. To stop 2 open net fish farms, in the #DiscoveryIslands archipelago, from restocking their pens. These fish farms are remote & they don't want public to access them. No restocking was able to happen on day we went on flotilla protest & patrol.

I've been a part of the battle here to get #FishFarmsOut for over a decade. There's finally some progress but we need to still keep up the pressure on federal & provincial governments.
#SaveWildSalmon because they're a #KeystoneSpecies & if we lose them, it sets off chain reactions in both #ocean & #OldGrowthForest #ecosystems. Wild salmon are extremely important to the Indigenous peoples of BC & the fight to protect them goes back decades.

    Always put #WildFirst ✊️
