Macaulay Rd protected bike lanes from Boundary Rd to Langford St now exist. It's only one block but it looks like a good start.

Wir haben gestern 3031 Unterschriften für einen Einwohnerantrag für geschützte Radfahrstreifen in #Karlsruhe an unseren Baubürgermeister Daniel Fluhrer übergeben. Der Antrag fordert die Verwaltung auf, beim Neu- und Umbau von Hauptverkehrsstraßen, die Anlage geschützter Radfahrstreifen zu prüfen. Der Gemeinderat muss jetzt über die Zulässigkeit und den Antrag selbst entscheiden. #ProtectedBikeLanes #geschutzteRadwege

Die Zahl der Fahrradtoten ist in Deutschland in den letzten zehn Jahren gestiegen. Die ZEIT hat alle 446 Todesfälle aus 2024 recherchiert, dokumentiert und ausgewertet.
Die meisten Radfahrenden starben, während sie eine Straße überqueren wollten, oft an Kreuzungen und Einbiegungen, wo sie mit anderen Fahrzeugen zusammenstießen.
Die Sterblichkeitsrate verdoppelt steigt ab 60 Jahren exponentiell an. In einer Umfrage des #ADFC gaben 70 Prozent der Befragten an, sich im deutschen Straßenverkehr nicht sicher zu fühlen. Doch die Politik bleibt größtenteils untätig.
Zwar hat Deutschland seit 2021 die #VisionZero zum Ziel, viele Sicherheitsmaßnahmen werden jedoch trotzdem nicht oder nur zögerlich umgesetzt, weil sie den fließenden Autoverkehr beeinträchtigen könnten oder #Parkfläche umgewidmet werden müsste. Dabei zeigen Best-Practice-Beispiele wie in #Helskinki, dass sie hochwirksam sind.

#Verkehrsplanung und #Verkehrspolitik brauchtén einen #Paradigmenwechsel: Politik und Planung sollte nicht mehr am Auto, sondern an der Sicherheit der vulnerabelsten Verkehrsteilnehmenden ausgerichtet werden. Bei bereits bestehender Infrastruktur sollte der Schutz vulnerabler Gruppen bereits jetzt durch Sofortmaßnahmen umgesetzt werden. Niemand sollte durch Unachtsamkeit jemand anderes töten oder getötet werden. Kein Parkplatz und keine angebliche Zeitersparnis ist schützenswerter als das Leben von Menschen.

Most of the ride was on #greenways, #ProtectedBikeLanes, or neighborhood streets. In the few places we did have to interact with car #traffic, drivers seemed extra cautious and patient, with a new respect for stop bars and bike boxes. (2)

Taxis back in the bike lane. There were only two and the rest of the taxis that have gone past have gone to the proper taxi rank so I guess the narrowing of the entrance has mostly worked.
