Over a month has passed since the victorious end of the hunger strike of our comrades Aristotelis Chantzis and Suzon Doppagne.
But just like Aristos’ recovery, the situation in the Community of Squatted Prosfygika remains critical.
Recent developments and the rhetoric of New Democracy Party have amounted to the estimation that a physical attack on the Community in Athens is imminent and will probably take place in August or September.
In the Event we will give a more holistic overview on what the current situation is and what the next steps are.

Über einen Monat ist seit dem siegreichen Ende des Hungerstreiks unserer Genoss*innen Aristotelis Chantzis und Suzon Doppagne vergangen.
Doch genau wie Aristos’ Genesung bleibt die Lage in Prosfygika weiterhin kritisch.
Die jüngsten Entwicklungen und die Rhetorik der Partei „Neue Demokratie“ lassen vermuten, dass ein gewaltsamer Angriff auf die Gemeinschaft in Athen unmittelbar bevorsteht und wahrscheinlich im August oder September stattfinden wird.
Bei der Veranstaltung werden wir einen umfassenderen Überblick über die aktuelle Lage und die nächsten Schritte der Verteidigung geben.
Wir wollen auf das zurückblicken, was wir bisher erreicht haben, und einen Ausblick darauf geben, was wir tun können, um sicherzustellen, dass unser Sieg Bestand hat und Prosfygika weiterlebt!

Doch sie ist gut organisiert und zäh. Ein langer Hungerstreik und europaweite Mobilisierung bis hin zum EU-Parlament folgten. Der FAU-Kongress erklärte sich mit Prosfygika solidarisch. Nun rückt die Stadtverwaltung von Athen von dem Plan ab. Prosfygika finally won in their struggle for community autonomy! The local government has accepted their declaration of autonomy and prevented (for now) future redevelopment attempts. Very very big win for Greek anarchists, and I am so so glad Prosfygika lives on.

Des de Catalunya, 15 militants de La Saó, La Màquia, FAPC, COSHAC y Defend Kurdistan viatgem en solidaritat amb la lluita de Prosfygikà
#Prosfygikà és una comunitat de més de 400 persones de 27 nacionalitats, amb una gran diversitat ètnica, religiosa, ideològica i generacional. És un node central de les xarxes internacionals comunistes. El barri-comuna està format per 8 blocs construïts als anys 30.
Destinat originalment a allotjar persones refugiades, es convertí en un espai clau de resistencia roja a Atenea durant la guerra civil del país i des de fa 16 anys és una comunitat okupada autogestionada i un exemple paradigmàtic de barri alliberat.
La comuna de Prosfygikà no rep cap ajuda de l'estat i està composta per estructures: de salut, de dones, d'educació i cultura, logística, etc. També produeixin i distribueixen pa. Es basen en el suport mutu, la confiança i l'internacionalisme.
Des de fa 5 mesos, Prosfygikà està amenaçada de desallotjament per part de l'Estat grec. Les companyies Aristotelis Chantzis i Suzon Dopoagne, com a estratègia de resistencia, van començar una vaga de fam fins a la mort fa 140 dies i 55 dies, respectivament.
Ahir, dijous 25/06 van anunciar el final de la vaga, després que el govern de Grècia acceptes negociar i cobrir en gran part les demanades de la comunitat:
- Que s'aturi l'amenaça de desallotjament de les habitants de Prosfygikà
- Que la comunitat de Prosfygikà sigui reconeguda com a part activa de qualsevol negociació de remodelació urbana i de qualsevol reforma proposada que afecti a la comunitat, d'ara en endavant.
Encara calen mans i tot el nostre suport, perquè el risc no ha cessat i la crida a la comunitat internacionalista segueix. La Saó, Defend Kurdistan, La Màquia, FAPC I la COSHAC sentim que el nostre deure és construir ponts per nodrir projectes com Prosfygikà. Tot i que la situació a dia d'avui és més estable, viatgem per intercanviar trajectòries de lluita, mostrar suport i també, per celebrar la victòria.

HEALTH UPDATE REGARDING ARISTOTELIS CHANTZIS – TRANSFER TO THE EVAGGELISMOS ICU
‚The health of Aristotelis Chantzis is in extremely critical condition. He is presenting multi-organ failure with cardiac damage, hepatic dysfunction, respiratory failure requiring high-flow oxygen administration, rhabdomyolysis, bone marrow suppression, and electrolyte disturbances within the context of prolonged starvation and in combination with severe refeeding syndrome.
At this moment, he is being transferred from the ICU of “G. Gennimatas” to the ICU of “Evaggelismos.”….‘

Oggi [23 giugno 2026] Aristotelis Chantzis, membro della Comunità Occupata di Prosfygika è stato trasportato all'ospedale "Georgios Genimatas" a causa di sintomi neurologici acuti.
Aristotelis è in sciopero della fame da 138 giorni e il suo peso è sceso a 38 chili.

Athener Stadtrat spricht sich gegen Räumung von Prosfygika aus
‚Der Hungerstreik von Bewohner:innen der selbstverwalteten Nachbarschaft Prosfygika hat zu einem ersten Erfolgt geführt. Der Stadtrat fordert die verantwortliche Region Attica auf, die Räumung zu stoppen. Aristotelis Chantzis befindet sich nach Beendigung des Hungerstreiks weiter in Lebensgefahr…..‘
Ces cinq derniers mois, une lutte acharnée pour la survie s'est déroulée pour défendre Prosfygika, avenue Alexandras. Il s'agissait de s'opposer aux expulsions, aux déplacements forcés et à la destruction de la plus importante initiative d'auto-organisation en faveur du logement social, de la solidarité et du bien commun en Grèce et en Europe. Les agresseurs étaient un régime socialement destructeur et le gouverneur régional N. Chardalias, avec leurs projets d'embourgeoisement et leur politique de répression contre les mouvements et les personnes.
En première ligne de ce combat, le camarade Aristotelis Chantzis (en grève de la faim depuis le 5 février 2026) et la camarade Suzon Doppagne (en grève de la faim depuis le 1er mai 2026) ont volontairement porté un lourd fardeau.
C'est un combat victorieux depuis le début, car seul un combat non mené est perdu. C'est un combat juste, désintéressé et collectif, non seulement pour les plus de 400 habitants de Prosfygika, mais pour la société tout entière. Pour nous tous. Pour le droit au logement, à la vie, à la dignité, et pour le droit des peuples à s'organiser, à s'auto-organiser et à façonner leur propre destin en ces temps difficiles.
C'est aussi une lutte née de la base et qui s'est propagée partout – en Grèce et à l'international – à travers la société, au sein des mouvements sociaux, parmi les citoyens, et même au sein des institutions et des partis politiques. Cette lutte est victorieuse non seulement au sens strictement politique, mais aussi sur le plan profondément social. En promouvant l'ouverture et l'inclusion, elle a su rassembler des personnes très différentes, permettant la formation d'un mouvement exemplaire sur la manière de mener des luttes victorieuses et de forger des fronts de résistance sociale en période de récession, de sécheresse et de fragmentation généralisée – malgré, bien sûr, ses erreurs et ses faiblesses.
Hier, la municipalité d'Athènes a adopté sa deuxième résolution, qui porte le coup de grâce au plan Chardalias, déjà voué à l'échec sur tous les plans : technique, politique et économique. De plus, cette résolution répond en grande partie à nos revendications légitimes et évidentes, dans la limite de ses compétences :
- 1- Elle a appelé la région de l'Attique à suspendre la mise en œuvre de la décision de gentrifier le quartier de Prosfygika et, dans le même temps, la communauté des squatteurs de Prosfygika à suspendre sa grève de la faim.
- 2- Elle a reconnu la Communauté des squatteurs de Prosfygika comme une entité autonome et un acteur social collectif, et comme un partenaire égal ayant un rôle décisif dans tout effort futur de restauration du quartier de Prosfygika.
- 3- Il a été convenu que tous les habitants de Prosfygika resteraient dans leurs logements et que, même en cas de travaux de restauration, ils seraient relogés dans le même quartier, acceptant ainsi la restauration progressive des bâtiments que nous proposons.
- 4- Le document souligne les responsabilités de la municipalité. Celle-ci dispose de pouvoirs et de responsabilités clairement définis, tant en ce qui concerne les permis requis aux différentes étapes de la restauration des bâtiments que dans le domaine du logement social. La municipalité a garanti qu'elle n'apporterait ni son concours ni n'accorderait les autorisations nécessaires au projet, bloquant ainsi toute action de l'autorité régionale qui s'écarterait du cadre défini ci-dessus.
Concernant l'abstention des factions de l'Alliance subversive et du Rassemblement populaire, nous respectons pleinement leur position, compte tenu des préoccupations et des désaccords qu'elles ont exprimés. Après tout, nous aussi, nous ressentons le besoin de manifester notre désaccord face à toute comparaison entre la valeur d'une vie humaine et celle d'un mur peint. Surtout lorsque cette vie a été laissée à l'abandon par l'indifférence des institutions et les intérêts économiques, se consumant comme de la cire pendant 140 jours, son sort ne tenant qu'à un fil.
Nous tenons également à souligner que nous maintenons nos doutes quant à la mise en œuvre des engagements pris par les institutions, comme en témoignent de nombreux cas. Le cas récent de Panos Routsis, gréviste de la faim et père de Dennis, assassiné à Tempi, en est un exemple. M. Routsis attend toujours que le gouvernement tienne sa promesse d'exhumer le corps de son fils. Nous exigeons le respect de ces engagements et appelons le mouvement solidaire à rester vigilant.
Aujourd'hui, suite à l'immense mouvement de solidarité et de soutien et à la reconnaissance à plusieurs niveaux de la Communauté des Prosfygika squattés, le gouvernement Mitsotakis et la Région de l'Attique se retrouvent isolés face à la société tout entière. Ils n'ont plus que la violence brute pour s'opposer à la Communauté. Nous sommes ici pour faire front ensemble contre elle, comme nous l'avons fait durant toutes ces années de répression brutale menée par les forces politiques les plus réactionnaires.
Suite aux événements survenus le mercredi 24 juin, nous, en tant que Communauté, avons tenu des discussions avec les grévistes de la faim Aristos et Suzon et avons collectivement décidé de suspendre la grève de la faim tout en poursuivant la lutte par d'autres moyens jusqu'à ce que nos revendications soient pleinement satisfaites.
L'issue positive de la lutte jusqu'à présent et la satisfaction de la plupart de nos revendications nous permettent de mener la grève de la faim à une conclusion victorieuse. Cela signifie aussi éviter le risque de perdre deux personnes qui nous sont si précieuses, à nous comme à la société tout entière. Parallèlement, c'est également éviter d'accabler de morts un mouvement et un public qui, soit ignorent les luttes au prix de sacrifices, soit croient que ce combat est déjà gagné.
Enfin, si le véritable objectif du gouverneur régional Nikos Chardalias était dès le départ la restauration et la préservation des bâtiments et de leur importance historique, nous restons ouverts au dialogue pour trouver un terrain d'entente, fondé sur la présence continue de tous les habitants de Prosfygika et la reconnaissance de la communauté auto-organisée existante.
Les solutions aux problèmes de notre époque se trouvent dans un partenariat avec la société, et non dans une opposition à elle. À l'opposé des projets de vengeance, d'hostilité et d'extermination politique de l'État, du gouvernement régional et du gouvernement Mitsotakis, ce combat est un combat pour la défense de la vie et de la dignité, et vise à donner un autre exemple à nos sociétés et à nos peuples.
En conclusion, nous tenons à exprimer notre profonde gratitude à chacun d'entre vous – dont la plupart nous étaient inconnus – qui, chacun à votre manière, nous soutient dans ce combat juste et admirable. Nous assumons l'entière responsabilité de nos erreurs et sommes disposés à les examiner avec toutes les personnes intéressées par cette discussion. Enfin, nous appelons à la vigilance quant à l'état de santé critique d'Aristotelis Chantzis, face à la possibilité de représailles contre les grévistes de la faim et notre Communauté dans son ensemble, ainsi que face à la poursuite des projets hostiles du gouvernement et de la région à l'encontre de la Communauté de Prosfygika squattée.

SPONTANKUNDGEBUNG - Solidarität mit Prosfygika und den Hungerstreikenden in Athen!
Donnerstag 25. Juni um 19.00 Uhr beim Claraplatz Basel
Aristotelis Chantzis befindet sich nun bereits seit über 140 Tagen im Hungerstreik und musste am Montag, den 22. Juni, aufgrund seines lebensbedrohlichen Zustandes in ein Krankenhaus eingeliefert werden.
Wir fordern die Verantwortlichen dieses Komplotts gegen Prosfygika, namentlich die Stadtverwaltung Athens und den griechischen Staat dazu auf, den Vertrag über die Zerstörung Prosfygikas umgehend zu annullieren. Das Leben der beiden Hungerstreikenden hängt an einem seidenen Faden!

En estos momentos, Aristotelis Chantzis, en huelga de hambre desde hace 139 días, está siendo trasladado al hospital «Georgios Genimatas» con síntomas neurológicos agudos.
Su estado es extremadamente crítico, ahora pesa solo 35 kg y su vida pende de un hilo.
Toda la responsabilidad recae en Nikos Chardalias, el Gobierno de Mitsotakis, el Ministerio de Cultura, así como en otras entidades implicadas, como el Servicio Público de Empleo y el Ayuntamiento de Atenas, que, a pesar de tener la solución en sus manos, no han actuado; en última instancia, todos ellos asumirán la misma responsabilidad por la primera muerte de un huelguista de hambre en Grecia.

In January, we had the opportunity to take part in a feminist delegation to Prosfygika in Athens – a self-organised community that has been resisting the state and the capitalist exploitation of urban space for 16 years.
However, Prosfygika is far more than just a squat.
Over 400 people from 27 regions of the world live together in eight blocks of flats, speaking 20 different languages.
What unites them is their shared project to shape a communal life based on horizontality, solidarity, co-determination and self-management.
Yet it is precisely this project that now faces its greatest threat.
The Greek state is planning to ‘renovate’ the residential buildings, which puts the community at acute risk of eviction.
It is the fifth and, so far, most severe attack on the community.

Im Januar hatten wir die Möglichkeit, an einer feministischen Delegation nach Prosfygika in Athen teilzunehmen – einer selbstorganisierten Gemeinschaft, die seit 16 Jahren dem Staat und kapitalistischen Verwertung des städtischen Raums Widerstand leistet.
Prosfygika ist jedoch weit mehr als eine Besetzung.
Auf acht Wohnblöcken leben über 400 Menschen aus 27 Regionen der Welt zusammen und sprechen 20 verschiedene Sprachen.
Was sie eint, ist das gemeinsame Projekt für die Gestaltung eines gemeinschaftlichen Lebens auf der Grundlage von Horizontalität, Solidarität, Mitbestimmung und Selbstverwaltung.
Doch genau dieses Projekt steht heute vor seiner größten Bedrohung.
Der griechische Staat plant die „Sanierung“ der Wohnhäuser, was die Community akut räumungsbedroht macht.
Es ist der fünfte und bislang schwerste Angriff auf die Gemeinschaft.

No EU-Funds for the Eviction of the Community of Squatted Prosfygika
No EU-Funds to kill the Hunger Strikers Aristotelis Chantzis and Suzon Doppagne
For almost 120 days, Aristotelis Chantzis has carried out a hunger strike until death in defense of the Squatted Community of Prosfygika in Athens. Since May 1st, Suzon Doppagne has joined him on this path for the defense of life. A struggle for a society built on solidarity, dignity, resistance, and the conviction that we will win.
Their decision is grounded in collective determination: the refusal to accept the eviction of a living community, the destruction of collective care, and the displacement of more than 400 residents. For more than 16 years, Prosfygika has built relationships, culture, and a model of self-organization, self-sufficiency, and direct democracy that continues to sustain hundreds of people from the oppressed class and from over 27 nationalities unified in the center of Athens.
And still, the Mitsotakis government has made clear that it is prepared to let the hunger strikers die in order to attack and destroy one of the largest self-organized communities in Europe — through a violent eviction carried out in the name of the planned “Regeneration Project,” financed through several millions from the European ESPA funds.
At a time when every aspect of life is being privatized, commodified, and placed under attack, more and more people are being pushed into poverty, exclusion, and social death. We see it in the collapse of public healthcare, the privatization of education, the eviction of people from their homes, the destruction of labor rights, and the unbearable rise in the cost of rent, food, and energy. We see it in the criminalization of resistance, the repression of communities, the destruction of public and natural spaces, and in governments investing in war, genocide, and militarization while society itself is forced into precarity.
In this reality, Prosfygika affirms that another way of life is possible: a life rooted not in isolation and the logic of “everyone for themselves,” but in solidarity, collective care, and shared resistance. The attack against the Squatted Community of Prosfygika is therefore far more than an attack on a neighborhood. It is an attack against the possibility of self-organization beyond state control, exploitation, and abandonment; an attack against the right to live with dignity; and an attack against a life built on shared responsibility, humanity, and collective struggle.
After months full of local and internationalist mobilization, interventions at the municipality of Athens and the Attica Region and Invitations with local politicians for a dialogue, we will not wait any longer for any positive response from representative of the Greek state.
We call on every person with conscience, every organized force of the movement, every social organization, to come from the 2nd – 4th of June to Brussels to spread our message all together.
WE ARE HERE, WE WILL NOT TAKE A STEP BACK – UNTIL WE WIN OR WE WIN.
