This report reads like a Property Council press release rather than analysis. Falling prices in parts of Melbourne are framed as a crisis, when for decades the real crisis has been housing becoming completely unaffordable for ordinary people. Victoria is one of the few states actually trying to increase supply, tax speculation and take pressure off renters and first home buyers. Of course the property lobby hates that. Affordable housing is not a nightmare for the public, it is only a nightmare for investors and developers who rely on endless price inflation. A correction after years of excess is not failure, it is overdue.

In this article, Leith van Onselen skirts around what has been a cornerstone of his previous arguments that Victoria’s investor targeted land tax hikes that have arguably made housing more accessible for first home buyers. Instead, he veers into vague statements about the state’s economy being ‘weak’ and ‘crime’ being a concern, without evidence or explanation. If he truly prioritised readers, he’d lean into the policy discussion he used to champion and not include superficial and distracting comments that detract from a meaningful dialogue on affordability.

@rood Yes, they had policies—policies to boost the value of their multiple investment properties and to keep the property lobby and big business happy. Let’s not forget the media barons profiting from the world-record fees charged for home sale advertisements.

Australia's economic stability is threatened by a potential #recession, driven by a dramatic decline in international students. As Labor pushes to cap foreign enrolments to curb migration, questions arise about whether our economy's reliance on a population boom resembles a #Ponzischeme . #Australia #Economy #InternationalStudents #MigrationPolicy #RecessionRisk #PopulationBoom #PropertyLobby

Raymond pays just $150 a week for his tiny, dark, two-room unit in Paddington, where he's lived for 45 years. Now, developers want him out. Read more about the push for change in this blue-chip Sydney suburb. (No prizes for guessing why a property spruiking Domain.com.au will not be siding with the underdog pensioner) #Paddington #PropertyDevelopment #RealEstate #SydneyProperty #HousingCrisis #RentalCrisis #Greed #Propertylobby

Last year, a Victorian tax brought in $11.3 million from investors with empty residential properties. Shouldn't every state do the same? #NeverGoingToHappen #PigsFly #PropertyLobby #Victoria #nsw #greed

CW: Hit new song (funny)
PROPERTY DEVELOPERS MUST DIE
One verse is about wasteful flippers,
> "Oh I don't like that shade of marble".
One verse is about the #PropertyLobby asking govt to abuse more migrants.
> "Bomb in those fresh, 'hip-few-gees'. I gotta place above a #trainStaion and across from factories. Park em in my #property and I'll donate to your election, and we can have em building #bombs for who's left in their nation."
