I've just released a proof of concept that demonstrates how GPU usage can make NIP-13 (proof-of-work) completely unviable.
Bots using GPU are over ONE ORDER OF MAGNITUDE faster than CPUs:

A mid-range NVIDIA GPU is ~50x faster than a modern CPU.
This means any bot using GPU will have a massive advantage over normal users on CPU, making NIP-13 ineffective as an anti-spam mechanism.

Lol. Another introduction piece on "What is the #Fediverse?" that immediately lays into #ActivityPub - that's like doing a primer on #cryptocurrency and starting off with talking about #blockchain or what #proofofwork is (and all of them fail at it).
You have to explain it in terms people are already familiar with. What if you could follow a Youtube Channel (that _doesn't have_ its own Facebook account) from YOUR Facebook account. Or talk to a Facebook friend FROM Twitter.

Web scrapers run by LLM companies have become so aggressive that some website operators feel a need to use Anubis, a proof-of-work barrier using script in the browser. I'm told it's less bad than blocking entire countries or making your readers find all the traffic lights.

Для меня мир логистики был максимально далек от цепочки блоков, как и цепочка блоков от меня, поэтому я решил погрузиться в эту технологию. Прочитав множество статей и несколько книг, я выяснил, что теория с практикой идут рядышком, но понимание того, как же блокчейн работает на самом деле, не пришло, поэтому было решено создать что-то с нуля своими ручками. Нужно понимать, что между наработками, которые я буду рассматривать, и «настоящим» блокчейном есть большая разница: на ранних этапах разработки блокчейн-сеть может иметь низкую производительность, уязвимости и неоптимизированные механизмы консенсуса, которые улучшатся в финальной версии. Но в любом случае этот проект будет основан на ключевых принципах децентрализованных систем. Мой пост будет полезен для таких же новичков, как я, которые имеют некоторый опыт разработки, но с технологией блокчейн не были знакомы или слышали про него краем уха. В этой статье мы рассмотрим, как создать простую приватную сеть блокчейн с использованием языка Go.

I believe you are familiar with #blockchains that are based on #ProofOfWork, so it should be sufficient to say that the energy required by #bitcoin is already an estimated 120 Twh annually, surpassing several countries.
While single users may try to calm their conscience by only using a fraction of this (and #ProofMode by pointing to its aggregation mechanism), it's the sheer scaling effect that matters. Merely by using the bitcoin blockchain with others, you'd also be contributing to stabilizing bitcoin, fostering an even wider usage of it, and faster burning of our planet. As an idiom in my language goes: no raindrop wants to be guilty of the flood. But they are.

In search of something better, I think I've progressed from Threads to Mastodon (the Fediverse) and now to Nostr real quick.
Quite challenging for a non-tech guy like me (kept me sleepless last night reading up on Nostr) but it's worth the ride- a bumpy one at that. Learned a new technology and new set of jargons even.
The Fediverse is still my "home universe" though. Will not leave #VivaldiSocial. This is just me putting one foot in and get a bit of what the party is all about. :)
