@losttourist oooh... 'tis the Prog Rock #Proms - I listened to that earlier in the week and it was good fun (although I was not convinced by some of the singing)
Sadly they're following it with an Oasis song which they are oh so proud of... 8-(

Hey poppers. There's no need to rush off and have your tea early tonight as Top of the Pops won't be starting until 9pm this evening.
Of course if you like your music characterised by slightly fewer repetitive beats, you can always stick your telly on to BBC Four at 7pm anyway for a bit of the Proms.

Monday's Prom sounds interesting. I saw Abel Selaocoe premier his own cello concerto with the Aurora Orchestra in the Edinburgh Festival last year, and was very impressed.
Definitely one to listen on catch up! (I was at a jazz gig on Monday - it is the entity Jazz Festival, after all!)

Well, David Baddiel left a bad taste in my mouth "danish gibberish" to describe yodeling on Focus' Hocus Pocus and "English... And Scottish and Welsh and Whatnot" among other comments...

And we're finishing this first half with Tubular Bells which is practically an orchestral piece in itself...
I've been enjoying myself even if I barely recognise most this stuff (I'm not averse to it, obviously, but my Dad is the prog rock fan really)
Actually singing hasn't always been great, but I put that down to age in most cases...

So, we open tonight's Prog Rock Prom with classical piece which comes back via Emerson Lake and Palmer - Fanfare for the Common Man
Oh, this is fun 8-)
We have someone from Van De Graff Generator on the show too... I went to school (a year or two behind) the son of someone from VdGG (I think I have that right)

Disappointingly, as I am not well versed in Brass Band lore, the "Black Dyke Band" Prom tomorrow is not what I was expecting...
Might still catch it (but then again, it includes the wrong Hedwig's Theme)
Enjoying this piano stuff on first night with my breakfast though 8-)

The #BBCProms started last night - I'm about to watch the First Night opening concert from last night, and will dip in and out of other things as I feel and have the time.
But am particularly excited by a few -
* Prog Rock - tonight (dunno when being broadcast yet)
* The Unthanks and friends (including Villagers) with the Northern Sinfonia on Thursday ("for later broadcast" whatever that means)
* Bond and Beyond - 25th August
* Alan Menken's Music for Disney on 31st August -

A one for Private Eye. I've just been watching a repeat of The Last Night Of The Proms; presenter Katie Derham was discussing composer Rachel Portman with Nick Mohammed, "She's got a nack, Nick" .
That's a new one on me. I'm sure she's got a niick nack, bot we shouldn't be talking about that on Sunday at the BBC.
