  1. For the ~3 other #Arduino folks on the planet trying to solve the same problem I am: if you're desperately trying to find a 3.3V version of a #ProMicro with USB type C, Sparkfun make one with a Raspberry #PiPico RP2350 on board - much faster chip than an Atmel 32U4, runs at 3.3 volts, and no more expensive, plus there's the usual exciting range of faithful and creative clones on AliExpress.

The RP2040 also runs at 3V3 but is tolerant of 5V, for those weird in-between projects. #electronics

  2. My current success rate with #MechanicalKeyboard PCB soldering is currently only 2 out of 5, well 40% is a pass mark - just.

The #RaspberryPiPico #RP2040 ‘Gamma Omega TC36K’ board worked (an easy build, could probably have socketed it). 💚

One success, one failure with #SeeedStudio #Xiao BLE castellated in Forager ‘Acid’ PCB (some fiddly back pads). 🧡

Two failures with #ProMicro #nRF52840 BLE in ‘Gamma Omega Hesse’ board attempting faux-castellation💔

Just as well custom PCBs are fabricated in batches of five - waiting on spare parts to try again - #LearningByDoing or #LearningByFailing ?

  7. If my first wireless Bluetooth #MechanicalKeyboard proves a little battery hungry - and the #ZMK Discord channel suggests the #nRF52840 #ProMicro controller I plan on using can be - there’s an easy fix: Buy a bigger battery! 🪫

In hindsight I was over cautious when I ordered the 300mAh LP602030 battery BEFORE finalising the design, and eked out a few more millimetres for it 😢

    Design is here: github.com/unspecworks/gamma-o

  8. They are alive!!!

I soldered all 30 of them, they all work nicely!

These will be some nice pro micro alternatives for mechanical keyboard projects!

They have 32 megabit nand flash, the biggest available at the factory.

  9. Due to the #ChineseNewYear , they forgot to process my stamp hole #gerber update approval, and the order has been sitting for their processing confirmation state for over a week. Glad I checked by them this morning. Awesome!🤦 Currently it's in production. Can't wait to have them on my hands.

I got these as #usbc connectors from China. Got both of the variants just in case. #PCB is going to be 1.2mm thick.

  10. An update on #Arduino #ProMicro efforts. A little progress.

Got my Arduino-as-ISP wiring straightened up and I can indeed flash a bootloader onto my two bricked proMicros. I can similarly install my own programs using the "upload using programmer" option, which then programs the boards with the ICSP connections.

The boards run my code fine - except the USB of the 32u4 processor doesn't work.

Boards don't appear as a USB device, regardless of fresh bootloaders.

  11. I've got (yet another) side project going which needs the #Arduino #ProMicro.

This thing has the annoying feature of getting bricked very easily. Then the USB is no longer recognized, and you can't do anything with it.

Lots of sites outline a double-reset hit to bump it into bootloader mode briefly so you can put a new sketch onto it.

Unfortunately that isn't working for me. More reading. s

Tried to bootloader reload too, without luck. More attempts.

  12. I'm making another split keyboard, it'll be another lily58 but using controller boards with and gateron red switches (more suitable for the office). I'm also adding oled screen and maybe some leds since this will be wired (work computer doesn't have bluetooth 🙁 )

  13. I soldered a 30% #Gherkin #mechanicalkeyboard this weekend. Sports KAT Eternal keycaps and #QMK firmware. Both, the Gherkin design as well as QMK are free and open source software respectively hardware: qmk.fm/ + 40percent.club/ (No, it's not the new Raspberry Pi Pico based Gherkin, but the original #ProMicro based one. The #SparkFun Pro Micro is #openhardware as well.)

Note that I shifted the bottom row by 1u. Cant't work without offset there. Space is bottom right.
