Unfortunate news, it appears that #CurrentlyWeather, which runs a semi-federated #Mastodon instance, (#ProjectMushroom, with public side of spore.social) seems to be shutting down. I hope they have the decency to let their users migrate to other instances (!). Unless they plan to keep running Project Mushroom? (they fundraised for the expenses for that instance). #MastoAdmin

It was founded by journalist & climate scientist @EricHolthaus who I greatly respect. As an introvert in suburbia, I feel very isolated in my concern about the #ClimateCrisis, hoping to be part of a community to develop my activism.

I signed up to #ProjectMushroom 🍄 but whilst it was being set up joined mastodon.green, not realising mushroom was going to be on mastodon, too - by then couldn’t be bothered to change instance but keep on wondering whether i should, as i miss the climate Community i had on twitter - though v much like my new one here too. For some reason i can’t look at the spore instance timeline as i can with other instances- am i doing soemthing wrong?

Okay, just went down the #ProjectMushroom / #spore rabbit hole because I tried to follow someone who said they were on Mastodon, and listed their PM handle...and of course I couldn't find them at all.
What is the point? Why create an instance that can't interact with the fedi?
All I can say is, aptly named instance, because everyone there will remain in the dark.

A cool finding from this week's meanderings and #Mosstodon contribution to celebrate image sharing.
FYI #ProjectMushroom and #Spore folks: I can't find info on a hard limit for image uploads, but currently it seems that it gets rejected if it's 1.5 MB or more. (This one was 1.4 MB and uploaded quickly, no problem.)

EDITED to add that a different picture won't upload even at < 1 MB, so not sure yet how to avoid the 413 Request Entity Too Large error. -
@raccoon Example, if I can increase the #energy efficiency of my home, and thus pay less for heating oil (or wood or electricity) and then take those savings and spend them on something helpful to the #environment and the world, like supporting #ProjectMushroom and #Spore financially, It would have double the impact by saving emissions and helping the people who are doing something about the problem, instead of sending more money to those that are perpetuating the #ClimateCrises . 🧵 2/2

Alright, when I started becoming active on Mastodon, I created a few different accounts (to see how the whole thing works, to test several instances, etc). Time to merge a bunch.
I want to use this one as my main "serious" one (and merge other accounts here), but there are two problems.1. I really struggle with the color choices (yellow on white! am I really the only one for who this is an issue? @spore any news about allowing default colors as an option?)

Time to leave #Substack. I have a bad feeling about it and it's getting worse and worse to the day.
I see three possible replacements:1. Go back to blogging only and integrate a #newsletter thing in my blog (it's kinda what I used to do with MailChimp back in the day).
2. Any #Fediverse option that I'm not aware of?
3. @EricHolthaus I know you want to start one as part of #ProjectMushroom. Any rough idea about when it'll be launching?

I have had good luck finding servers for friends by searching for their interest by hash tag and looking for people who seem chill into the things they like and see what #servers THEY are on.
For example if you know any people who like: biology, art, dinosaurs, prehistory, geology and who want a good server the one I'm gone is good.

I know someone said this some time ago, but it's now nearly Christmas and after weeks of #TwitterMigration and users moving to #Mastodon instances, #ProjectMushroom, photographers and artists concentrating on Instagram... I've not seen a single post saying that someone is moving to or concentrating on Facebook. I'm not really sure what that says, but it's curious.
