Yesterday's therapy wiped me out today. Unpacking things you spent years burying leaves you feeling completely drained.
On top of that, I am grieving the church.
My faith has not wavered, but in-person worship stopped working a while ago. Looking online has been disheartening. So much of what gets recommended is prosperity preaching that turns belief into a financial investment, peddling prophecies for money while telling anyone who remains sick or struggling that they lack enough faith.
Real care gets lost in that environment. I have never experienced a community that reaches out when someone goes missing, builds accommodations from the start, and holds space for sorrow instead of demanding an instant, tidy resolution.
Jesus spent his life alongside the people religious systems pushed aside, yet finding that same heart online feels rare. If you belong to an online Christian gathering that lives this out and prioritises accessibility over spectacle, I would love to hear about it.

I've started listening to a biography on the famous Christian Anarchist Dorothy Day, and the way the book describes Greenwich Village in the 1910s makes me think of how people saw Moulin Rouge in the movie of the same name, as either a paradise of art and free love and open minds or a sad spectacle of sex work, shitty slums, and sleezy druggies.

Please help me descend to the depths of nerdery. At least Biblical nerdery. I'm writing a translation of the Bible and trying to crowdfund this to make it my job for the next few years to translate the Bible.
I think we can all agree that among biblical translators there are far too few furry, nonbinary, tabletop gamers and far too much bias.
This translation will be released for free under a CC-BY 4.0 license when it is finished. (It's not like Zondervan or Nelson is going to be interested in an *unbiased* translation anyway.) You can use it for sermons or bible studies without limit, fill it with notes, share it with friends, or even change the parts you don't like. It's yours, do whatever you want with it.

Book review: The God Who Riots, Taking Back the Radical Jesus by Damon Garcia
My priest suggested instead of just giving something up for Lent, we should take something in. One of the things she suggested was reading theology books. I took this opportunity to read The God Who Riots, a book I had heard praised by fellow Christian leftists/anarchists but one I had not gotten around to reading yet. I just finished it, so I want to express my thoughts on it.
Once again I am hit with the feeling of how fucking different right-wing Christianity and left-wing Christianity, or as Fredrick Douglass put it "The Christianity of the land vs the Christianity of Christ" are. Garcia was raised in an evangelical background and he notes throughout the book that his drawing ever closer and closer to Christ would have him labelled a heretic (side note: real fucking funny for people who don't even know what the Nicene Creed is to use the word heretic, but that is just inside baseball bitching on my part).
He makes a convincing case on how Christ was in everything from the Stonewall riots to the burning of the police station in Minneapolis.
He references throughout the tension between the Christians who leverage their faith to keep the status quo and continue exploitation (everything from the Calvinist colonizers who used double predestination to justify exploiting foreigners to comfortable liberals who tut tut at BLM protesting in inconvenient places like the Mall of America)
Prison abolition, racial reparations, LGBTQ rights, anti-capitalism, its got a little bit of something for everyone. I would like to conclude by adding in one highlighted quote from each chapter.

The #Christian message is #LOVE. However, love is not what many feel when they go to #church. They feel judgment. They feel condemnation. They are made to feel fear. They are made to feel unworthy. And they are made to feel like they will never be enough, they will never measure up, and that who they are is offensive to God.
