Do any of these CMS and online-ad platform/network #productmanagers realize that if they were to just go back to unobtrusive only-static-image ads embedded in the html of the page itself I would fucking put eyeballs on those? But noooo, we gotta have modal popups and pay-gates and minimize-in-the-corner auto-play videos.

This worked just fine until 2010 then ya went and ballzed it up.

then... you're wrong. Oh I _know_ what the error is, I tried to get the Foo attribute on a Thing that had no Foo attribute. Why can't you say 'Thing has no Foo attribute.'?

Example 317 of why our #productmanagers may be shit hot at designing a product, but shitty at making #software :

We have the same half dozen settings that can be specified in 3 different locations. Think parameter in location A overrides it in location B which overrides it in location C. Valid use case.

But the order in which these parameters are displayed on each screen is _different_ in every screen. At least the field labels are the same.

We've been heavily influenced by people like @richardjpope, @pahlkadot, the #GDS, etc. - not having #ProductManagers is why a lot of #govtech doesn't work. We're fixing that by hiring the right people.

I want to describe the issue of #designers, #developers, and #ProductManagers going into excruciating detail about how they keep getting requests to solve problem X from stakeholders when the stakeholders actually want to accomplish Y, but the former groups are completely unaware that this situation has already been described well and documented at https://xyproblem.info and are wasting everyone’s time by acting like they have stumbled onto some new insight.

I have an XY Problem XY problem.

If you manage individual contributor #ProductManagers, you're typically responsible for:

#1. an area of responsibility (a product, or set of product areas — i.e. the superset of all your reports' areas of responsibility), **and**
#2. a team of people (performance, motivation, engagement, careers, ambitions).

If you neglect to take care of #2 and only give attention to #1, you'll eventually fail at #1 too.

That role, or position, should never have existed! It is "command-and-control thinking, turned structure".
The same goes of the function of #ProductManagement as a whole: It is a function of #steering that has no place in a democratic, decentralized, #complexity-robust organization.

You better get rid of it, entirely.
