It seems to me that UAE has come up with a strategy for Grand tour races that actually works pretty well, that others are beginning to emulate.
That strategy is to not quite try and control the breakaway formation. The break essentially monitors itself and marks out dangerous riders, the break doesn't want a GC rider that will result in it being killed off. Sit back and watch, save energy and when the break goes, just ride tempo.

Being unsure about the form of Roglic and also his proclivity to crash, I left him off my #Velogames team for #LaVuelta2024 . I went with Almeida. Sad that he is out. Even sadder, Covid has reared it's ugly head in the poloton again. The Tour dodged a bullet, I think. We'll see if the Vuelta can be as lucky.
