"Depuis la #Révolution française, les privilèges n'ont eu de cesse d'être dénoncés, ou au contraire relativisés. Mais le terme, lui, est toujours là. Et il ne veut pas dire la même chose pour tout le monde. Alors pour prendre un peu de recul sur ce terme et son histoire, la philosophe Alice de Rochechouart a écrit un livre qui commence ainsi : La philosophie est une discipline qui interroge l'évidence, qui examine ce qui semble aller de soi. Quoi de plus incontestable que l'abolition des privilèges et la devise française « Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité »? Pourtant, contrairement à ce que nous raconte notre roman national, nos structures sociales sont tout aussi hiérarchiques qu'avant la Révolution: la société est caractérisée par un ensemble d'avantages injustes que détiennent certains groupes sociaux au détriment des autres.
