First was a fascinating panel on the need for #GDPR harmonization at @edri's #PrivacyCamp23 with Lisette Mustert, Gwendal Le Grand, Romain Robert, @mariamagierska, and @ggf. This was an excellent run through of the different issues confronting cross-border GDPR enforcement, and the real life experience of a complaint against #Meta was incredibly detailed and revealing. Next was a timely panel on the EU #CSA proposal and the future of the #internet at @edri's #PrivacyCamp23 with @ella, Patric Breyer, Elina Eickstädt, and Corinna Vetter. Your 24/7 IP data equals fingerprints on the Internet. It's a problem for our #privacy that the EU Court understands the sensitivity of IP, but does not adequately protect it.

Every time data retention was rejected by ECJ Belgian legislators returned with a worse law, says lawyer Raf Jespers #PrivacyCamp23 (like expanding data access fr. 4to6to10 authorities). Taking this with humor the legislator looks like a child throwing a tantrum for getting his dangerous toy taken away. A less humorous view (by @echo_pbreyer) is: we have a rule of law crisis, as legislators in EU countries continue to object&circumvent ECJ rulings and pressure the court to lower hr standards.

Those excellent points were made by @lilifuhr at #PrivacyCamp23. Thanks for the panel!

Just learned how dumb it was when in the 1990s we started using "carbon emissions" as the main metric to measure the #ClimateCrisis, and "emissions reduction" as metric of success. (As opposed to amount of fossil fuels burned, forests destroyed, etc.)

That enabled the creation of the emissions market which is something Silicon Valley's #TechnoSolutionism advocates including #BigTech can now invest their wealth in.

Looks like #CCS and #CarbonOffsetting are not going to save us. #PrivacyCamp23

#PrivacyCamp23 is on fire today regarding end-to-end encryption and it's unfortunate I couldn't be at the event in person today.

@echo_pbreyer & @khaleesicodes emphasized the importance of strengthening end-to-end encryption and combine it with interoperability. MLS and (soon) mimi fill exactly this void by providing a standard protocol with strong e2ee & privacy, and interoperability.
