"1 in 3 #Maryland #foster #children are being given psychotropic #medications, often without a documented #psychiatric #diagnosis, according to the #ACLU lawsuit filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for Maryland. This is compared to about 8% of Medicaid-eligible children nationwide who are not in foster care."

Aside from health risks of docs prescribing meds off-label to kids, let's talk about the #education and #PrisonPipeline implications of this atrocity. 1/2

@drymifolia @forensicgarlic We agree that the system is broken. If you read earlier in this thread, you'll see what my professional background is relating to the topic. I have been actively working to end the #PrisonPipeline system for years. I am open to healthy discussion about how we can move forward as a society, but I'm not convinced a simple either-or answer will fix what ails America.

For the better part of the last decade (pre-covid) my work focus was split between the needs of profoundly gifted kids (think kids who start college as early as 10) and kids/teens caught up in the juvenile justice system (often mis-served by public school #SpEd). I am extremely sensitive to dismantling the #PrisonPipeline system as well as ensuring ALL #students have the opp to learn. When you think about ... /1
