Although the Prisoner's Dilemma favors non-cooperation in single interactions, embedding it in a model where players can recognize and remember one another, and react consistently to each opponent, leads to the emergence of cooperative behavior.

@NJWookie despite the wealth gap (which I’d argue is more a function of #libertarian ideas,) I’d counter that businesses can be efficient: as good as #capitalism’s #racetothebottom is for consumers, it is hard on businesses. Government doesn’t have such incentives

The place of government is to do what businesses can’t and what may go against human nature (I.e. #PrisonersDilemma): armed forces, build roads, basic science, regulate/incentivize for the future (I.e. clean energy)

The hell is so hot because that's where all the Bitcoin miners go, to play one last game of #PrisonersDilemma : if you shut your rig down, everybody wins from the slight improvement of climate, but you won't be getting itty bitty coins anymore. So, obviously, everybody takes the greedy option, so everybody suffers, and they have nobody to blame for it but everybody. The demons are fully innocent of frying anybody's poor shrivered souls — they just maintain the heat insulation.

Just read an interesting paper by Estrela & others (2019).

In environmentally mediated social interactions, modelling the environmental component explicitly can be important for capturing the dynamics. For example, in both a depleter-depleter and polluter-polluter interaction, both organisms negatively affect themselves and each other, but the dynamics of the environmental compound are different. 🧵
