  2. Hackaday: US Patent Changes Promise Severe Consequences. “When someone creates a US patent, they go through a review process to stop the most blatant copies from previous patents or pre-existing work. After this, you may still have bad patents get through, which can be removed through litigation or publicly accessible methods such as Inter Partes Review (IPR). The latter of which is planned to […]

  3. Progress against patent trolls:

"#UnifiedPatents' goal is to deter predatory #patent claims, which it does through efforts like its #crowdsourced contests to identify #PriorArt that would invalidate an improperly granted patent…It has successfully challenged over 55 #NPE ["non-practicing entity" or #PatentTroll] efforts that threatened #OpenSource software."

  4. The task of Bambu Labs (and hopefully also the #3dprinting community) is to collect so-called #PriorArt, showing that what was patented was already known and used before the patent was filed/granted. Especially in the case of a heated bed, which was filed in 2014, that seems to be quite easy to do.

  5. @terraboops

Make this ediscoverable by sending an email about it, nonchalantly... For later 📨 discovery since you originated it, right?

E.G. - "Hey, sorry this X, Y, Z idea got shot down by you as 'bad'. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Then you could always circle back on your idea with some meaningful results since it was your idea, right? #PriorArt example

  7. Turns out I can hashtag the real new logo recently given to #Twitter without having to resort to #X.

    #𝕏

Sometimes I really love the hashtag system on #Hubzilla that lets me put all kinds of characters into hashtags.

Still, I'm waiting for #ElonMusk to sue the #XorgFoundation, maintainer of the display manager #Xorg that won't fully replace #Wayland for years to come, over the name, the logo and the domain x.org. The X.org Foundation has been around for almost 20 years under that name, and their logo is that of the #XWindowSystem which is almost 30 years old.

May #Musk go broke over pumping billions into his lawyers trying to fight against #PriorArt before he makes himself the laughing stock of the Internet even more trying to buy out a non-profit foundation in a hostile takeover.

(Hashtagged #Linux so that this post won't appear in the timelines of people who have blocked this tag so they won't get "bombarded" with techy nerdy stuff.)

  9. @marcogiorgini Yes! Very cool. Read about this one when flipping through this book: thevideogamelibrary.org/book/c There's a little write-up about some behind the scenes from Oliver Lindau (the co-designer and graphic artist at #PriorArt).

  10. CW: Except he didn't
That's funny because I've been in the #Metaverse for more than a year and a half now.

For before #MarkZuckerberg hijacked the term, it meant the entirety of all virtual worlds, whether they can connect with one another or not (and they generally can't). #SecondLife, #OpenSim, #Sansar or #Sinespace, also MMORPGs like #WorldOfWarcraft. So if anything, whatever #Zuckerberg is cooking up will be part of the Metaverse. And not THE Metaverse.

You don't believe me? But you believe Wikipedia, don't you? Now, if this article should happen to be rewritten to only be about 3-D #Facebook at some point in the future from the time I've posted this, this is what the same article looked like back then.

Also, it wasn't Zuckerberg who invented the world "Metaverse" anyway, it was Neal Stephenson in his novel Snow Crash. And that was in 1992. #PriorArt, anyone?
