#didyouknow that 8,647 is a #primenumber? You should share that fact with a lot of friends, because it's really #interesting!

Mistodon: this #1bit portrait of Transformers boss #OptimusPrime was drawn by LDA at the request of NDH, who adapted it into an #ASCIIart #primenumber. This devastating pun, Optimus Prime Prime, was included in the science fiction-themed MIST0522 artpack collection.

Here are two cute series of primes my kid and I found today.
200003

2000000320000033
200000033
2000000033They are 2*10^k + 3 with k=5,6,7, and 2*10^k + 33 with k=7,8,9.

Since people seen to love celebrating social media statistics and milestones, I figure, when in -Rome- err, Fediverse, celebrate in the unconventionally Fedivers-ian style with a hooray for 97 followers, the largest two digit (decimal) prime number! 🥳🎉
That feels like a much more worthy milestone that the more conventional 100. 😉

When technology meets mathematics: The A100 GPU powers the discovery of the latest giant in the prime number world! 🚀💻✨🔍💡🧮💥🎉
The "new" largest prime was discovered today (October 21, 2024)! It's a Mersenne prime \( (2^p-1 )\), which is easier to find because it can utilize a specialized "faster" primality test (known as LLT, i.e., Lucas-Lehmer test). On October 11, an NVIDIA A100 GPU in Dublin, Ireland, reported that M136279841 is probably prime. On October 12, an NVIDIA H100 in San Antonio, Texas, USA, confirmed primality with a Lucas-Lehmer test.
\[\Huge 2^{136,279,841}-1\]
It took nearly 6 years for the Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search (GIMPS )software to find it after the previous largest known prime. It was also the first Mersenne prime found using GPUs.

I'm geeking out right now – a new #MersennePrime may have been discovered for the first time in six years!! :MOULE_Shock:

The largest #PrimeNumber (so far) was discovered five years ago today!
It’s a #MersennePrime discovered by a computer used by Patrick Laroche, an IT professional from Florida, who used the #prime-finding software Prime95 to stress-test his builds. It’s part of something called #GIMPS (Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search) that anyone can participate in and maybe discover the next largest Mersenne prime!

67 1 43
13 37 61
31 73 7
is the smallest #MagicSquare composed of #primes .
I notice a few #Heegner numbers in there. Wouldn't it be fun if just the Heegner numbers could form a magic square.

Everyone waiting for @bagder to reach 100 operating systems but actually the only important aspect is that it’s not a prime number for the list to fit nicely into a rectangle. 😉
99 did a very good job of 9×11 OSes. 100=10×10 will probably do just fine.
But dare you anyone submitting the 101st OS (prime number)! ☝️

Day 17, Prime NumberDay 17, photographed on day 17. Slow uploading because I had no idea what a prime number was, and when I looked it up I was none the wiser, but needed to lie down in a dark room to recover. The only thing I remember is that 11 is the controversial one, with much debate over whether it is a prime number or a composite. And I do like the rebels of any galaxy. But just in case I also present 2, 3, 5, 7 and 11

9302023 is a prime number
it also happens to be today's data in mm/dd/yyyy format

@Jyoti Well, at least this #PrimeNumber joke isn't the product of two other jokes.

Mijn kortste stukje ooit voor #NRC. Over het getal 111…111 (op de puntjes staan nog eens 86.447 enen).

After a couple tries, I found this sequence of #primenumber counts on #OEIS (you have to include the single digit primes) http://oeis.org/A309572
The OEIS has table of the first 2500 entries and a log scale plot which I recreated here in Maple. The submitter, Rémy Sigrist, identified the pattern based on residues mod 6. Sadly there is no additional work linked.I've added more colors for b ≡ 0 (mod 30 and 210) and it DOES look like the size depends on the distinct number of primes factors
