Some photographs justify themselves before you look through the viewfinder. A drag queen in full costume riding pillion on a Harley through Brunswick Street during Brisbane Pride is one of those. The composition, the colour, the sheer unexpectedness all land together.

The motorcycle contingent at Brisbane Pride is one of those parade segments that works photographically before you've made a single decision. Leather, chrome, rainbow fabric — the visual argument is already there.
What I didn't plan for was the drag queen in a full floral helmet arrangement riding pillion. That detail changed a competent frame into something I actually wanted to keep.
