  5. The Miracle of Morgan’s Creek

This is one of Elliott Kalan of The Flop House’s favorite movies, so when the New Beverly had it as part of a Preston Sturges double feature I knew I had to go. And sure enough, it’s mighty funny. I want to spoil every joke. I will spoil none.

This fake poster is based on a different “miracle” movie:

If you think this poster looks pretty low effort, you […]

  10. Watched Sullivan’s Travels. It’s No.61 on the AFI’s 100 Years…100 Movies—10th Anniversary list.

I thought it was pretty good. I didn’t know O Brother Where Art Thou was a reference to anything, but the title is from this movie.

  17. “Hail the Conquering Hero” (1944) — Preston Sturges’ final film in his brilliant stretch at Paramount in the early 1940s. Exquisite combination of screwball antics, biting social and political satire, sentimentality and a dash of wartime patriotism. This is Sturges at the peak of his craft.

  27. THE LADY EVE just gets better every time I see it. The double (and triple!) entendres he pulls off, you couldn't even attempt today. This is now a Preston Sturges stan account. "Oh, go peel an eel!"

  36. Once again watched "Sullivan's Travels," which I've seen more than any other Preston Sturges movie. It really is a marvel (and I don't say that with some embarassment 😉 ). In addition to the charming performances of Veronica Lake and Joel McCrea, nearly all his great company of character actors has something interesting to do. We see Franklin Pangborn and Porter Hall side by side, and William Demarest makes every #film better.
