I just finished #AliSmith ‘s #CompanionPiece and feel like she’s unlocked something inside me too (like in Martina Inglis/Pelf). What I love above all is how she breaks open the shallow flat #presentism of modernity and shows how the past and stories are alive in all of us. This is what i’ve been trying to get at, too (as in our @RadicalAnthro
local environmental knowledge workshop) - but she does it so so brilliantly #Bookstodon -

Thinking just now about how #Presentism - mainly living in and thinking about the present - is such a key feature of #Modernity, and how this alone has played such a key role in both creating the #ClimateCrisis and in our collective inability to address it. It’s so deeply engrained in our politics (electoral cycle), economics and senses of selves. We need to rediscover deeper connections to both past and future

Wait, what? Episode 3 of season 3 of #ViennaBlood paints a—let me put it mildly—somewhat fringe picture of the Austrian Revolution of March 1848, that led to the toppling of the Metternich regime. The episode makes it look like it was a German nationalistic affair only. Which it was not, not by far. Well, it obviously fits the narrative of the episode. Coincidentally, the English Wikipedia article has the same spin, while the German one is much more nuanced. Ah well, #presentism :blobcatshrug:
