  1. Today is #state #election in Rhineland-Palentine[1][2]. Just went to my old primary school to do my two crosses. Counts will be first posted after closing time[3]. I must say, I much prefer Australian #preferentialvoting [4]. I find it gives me more control over my #vote. On my way there, I had an inspiring chat with a neighbour. She said, "we are the state."

  3. This by election would be a good opportunity to launch a nonpartisan grassroots STV electoral reform campaign, but I just don't have the capacity to do it all - website, leaflets, street stalls, social media.

    Dear Nunyabidnes,

    There’s less than six days left until polls close, and approximately 20% of voters have already cast their vote. At this rate, over half of all voters will have voted before election day this Saturday.

    A long term goal but trying to get enough aussies to see that it can work without the big 2 is a long slog
    But slowly, so slowly, we are getting there
    It's now and tomorrow, for the greens and indies to make a good show of it, if things go well

    Please, please, if things go well, don't do big lines of coke and show up on the front page with no pants but failing that, please show us that you were the right choice🤞

    We don’t have much time left.

    Early voting starts on Tuesday. In last year’s state election nearly 70% of voters cast their vote before election day.

    Far-right lobby group Advance have raised over $7.6 million dollars specifically to fight the Greens, thanks to their wealthy backers.

    @zlatko @dgar

    if you would like a simple explanation of #PreferentialVoting
    which means although there are two major parties, we can vote for third parties or independents without splitting our vote

    (and the reason it’s annoying when media only report on two major parties)

    @NewtonMark

    Yeah, fine with them not being able to form government
    Most of the good governments around the world are minority governments and regularly are

    Not sure on the truth of them not able to form gov, though
    Don't know the rules on coalitions

    Also not sure if they are not the solution or if the FIXING of duopoly is at all a solution

    On the campaign trail so far, I’ve spoken to so many of you – and I’m hearing the same thing again and again: people are really struggling right now.

    Being unable to afford the weekly shop, massive rent hikes, and putting off doctor and dentist visits for as long as possible.

  15. Not true. Trump did not receive a 'massive mandate' as he keeps claiming.

    Trump received LESS than 50% of the votes and only 2/3rd of the eligible voters voted. So he received less than 33% of the possible votes.

    In many countries, receiving less than 50% of the votes results in a new election with only the two remaining candidates.

    He would have lost that. This is precisely why preferential voting is so important.

  16. >" ...the Greens have announced a plan to:
    Double the Disaster Recovery Payment to $2,000 for adults and $800 for children.
    Make the coal and gas corporations responsible for the climate crisis foot the bill.
    These payments haven’t been increased in nearly two decades — and in a cost-of-living crisis, they barely scratch the surface. "

    That’s why we’ve just launched our new ad that puts climate at the heart of this election: "

  18. Queuing at the polling station for #WesternAustralia's government election.
    Meant to #VoteEarly but woke up and it's election day

    #Perth has some tiny drizzle patches drifting by.

    Lookung forward to the #LegislativeCouncil paper - some 25 candidates EDIT: Groupings! get my #PreferentialVoting - yay! (The candidates have the electors attendance pretty much guarranteed. So "winding them up enough to get them to actually vote" is removed from the equation.)
