There is power in these spinning blades,
green ninja of the grass.The grasshoppers and praying mantes flee and
fly before the whirring wind. The hilly homes
of Appalachian moundbuilding ants are cut down
to jagged holes which spew forth red and black
bodies in an angry burning sea.They do not realize that the hurricane
which slings them and their children
through the air today is predicted again
for next week unless the grass somehow
ceases to grow or the fuel line

As with all design work, it is sometimes hard to decide when you’re finished. This model needed some more shaping to give it a better posture and more stability – it now stands on its own legs. I think I’ll leave it at that.

Look what landed on my arm today. While working on my balcony garden, I felt this on my arm, at first I thought it's worm, but then I saw it.
It's a baby praying mantis.
It's so tiny (4-6mm) and so fragile. Put it on one my plants that has a few aphids on it so it can have a fiest.
I feel so lucky. They are really rare here.

I was just outside watering the garden in the dark and when I came inside, I started talking to Kid2 who was near the front door and then we both heard a big flap behind us. I thought it was a moth but then Kid2 spotted it on the door – a praying mantis!
I asked if it would like to go back outside and it said (I assume, if the waving of the forelegs were anything to go by) yes please, so we did. I wonder if it was one of the babies we put outside last spring?! I kind of hope it was 🥰

I used to be really into insect photography, because macro photography is fun. I took these back in like 2013ish? Maybe fedi will like them.
The mantis was my pet, and the butterfly was from a "butterfly kit".

Another giant golden orb weaver, there are plenty of it currently on the road side... so you can see a lot of praying mantis egg cases, containing hundreds of eggs... this one attached to a tamarind plant...It is likely from an invasive species such as the Chinese mantis, which are commonly sold commercially for pest control. #spider #prayingmantis
