It's not about getting everyone to agree with only you since "you're infallible."
Remind people that disagreement exists and is palpable.
Do what you can, of any "amount" or "worth".You exist, therefore you impact this Earth.

Also, a note about #Ubuntu and #snap
I'm starting to get it.
I just installed Ubuntu 24.10, and within 30 seconds I was able to install the most recent Neovim build.
And it works flawlessly.
The usual / old process would be:
- apt install neovim
- groan because it was a version from like 5 years ago that no modern ecosystem software works with
- explore other options, and take the laziest approach I could (usually PPA)
At the end of the day, much as it ruffles a lot of people's feathers, I'm a #pragmatist
I want software and systems that WORK.
Like many of you, my initial experiences with snap were rather like being whipped into submission by some overweight bureaucrat who seemed to delight in causing end users pain.
But this REALLY isn't that at all.
So yeah. I still don't know if I'm in the Snap fan club, but I think it's important to give credit where credit is due, and in 2024 on modern Ubuntu, snaps thus far actually seem pretty nice.

For the record, I've had great success with New Age woo-woo magic, and consider the idea that some of it works as described on the tin to be a valid hypothesis. But it's not my custom to "believe" in things, and almost all of the out-there stuff I've encountered has viable alternative explanations with varying degrees of plausibility.
Almost all.
But a man not convinced of his own existence is unlikely to be convinced of any explanations of anything. I use what works. EOF.

The brain evolved for a billion years for 2 purposes: to respond to environmental stimuli, and to regulate the body. It should come as no surprise that you could coax the brain to affect those functions in positive and negative ways, and that it would be a powerful tool for that purpose.

In a #pragmatist perspective, the lesson to be learned from entropy is that it is exceedingly easy to give rise to more chaos in a system and conversely requires exceeding amounts of effort to bring more order into one.
Makes for a good moral meditation with regards to how much effort we put into predicting the consequences of our actions. Social ones, notably.

There is no a priori reason to presume that certain species of cetacean don't elaborate and maintain their own inter-generational oral traditions of historical epics.
Just a thought that popped into my head while hacking out the details of a #pragmatist approach to history here.

Ever think about that classical obsession with what sets our species apart from all others and part of you wants to just gesture towards every human-crafted object around you and respond, "Y'know... all of this!"?
Well from a strictly #pragmatist perspective, for better or worse that is literally the correct answer. What sets humans apart from all other species is nothing more nor less than, y'know *gestures at everything in view and especially towards the internet* all of this!

I'd like to tap in to the last of those atm. Is there anything we can do now (within months) to decrease #GunViolence?
What I want (what I really, really want) is to know if there are meaningful ways we could reduce the number of victims (especially children) that would work across the political spectrum?

You mistake me - I am a #pragmatist who accepts that we are where we are - with #brexit implemented and harming our country - the question I think is - how do we get out of this trap?
I do not think posting that I "repeat facts" whilst any who do not accept everything I say "accept lies" is the way to do it

Most interesting about it, to my mind, is that it's Putnam who comes across as most down-to-earth, most authentically, experientially connected with real-world concerns. In other words, who comes across as most genuinely #pragmatist. Even when referencing #Kant or #Plato, he is less abstract in tone and content than either Conant or, especially, Rorty. Symptomatic?
