I'm working through a section on using #interdisciplinarity to establish discursive relationships between private and public creative spaces (i.e. studio/notebook/stage) in my portfolio pieces. I have been trying to find time to fill some gaps in the documentation of my work that relies on the Twitter API to function. These were mostly done in collaboration with Chris Rodley and were usually installed in galleries and public sites.
B.E.T.T.Y. (2014) is one such work.
It asks, "What happens when a chatbot draws their words from social media?"
I have revisited many times, and as the tone of Twitter, and it's user-base has changed over the years, so too has B.E.T.T.Y.'s tone. If the API goes dark tomorrow, then today is probably the last time I will get to interact with her
