  1. If you enjoyed the fact that I designed and 3D-printed a custom rear ports cover for the my Power Macintosh Blue & White G4 mod, you can now download that model for yourself on MakerWorld (if you happen to be doing that exact same, super-specific mod).

    Now with icons!

  7. Relatives who showed up today delivered unannounced devices!

This #PowerMacintosh G3 desktop looks, from the outside, to be in good shape. It even came with a keyboard and two mice, and the "getting started" box. No idea where the optical drive went, though.

Update: there's a DVD drive! It's just pitch black and recessed far back into the case.

I'm not going to even connect a power lead until I open it up and check the motherboard. Fingers crossed.

  23. @Two9A About twenty years ago now, I found a #PowerMacintosh 8500 in the trash and decided to take it. The hardware was flaky, I had to mess with DIP switches on a VGA adapter, and I knew nothing about macOS 9 at that point.

But, like you, my first real Mac (and laptop) came when found a cheap #PowerBook G3 when I got to college. I bought a hard drive, some memory, and a boxed copy of #macOS Tiger. It was old by then, but it served me well until I got an Intel-based MacBook Pro.

  26. @mightyspaceman This brings back memories. I created a similar 3D diagram for work back ‘94 with Strata Studio on a Macintosh Quadra 700 that had been converted to a Power Mac 700 via an expansion card.

    youtu.be/VfRiRlIiNzs?si=0KBdbb

Thank you for reminding me of that project. It was a lot of fun and very educational.

  28. Had anyone been able to successfully install #MacOS 9.2.2 on a #PowerMacintosh 7100-class system? I’m on 9.1 but there were a bunch of good performance improvements in 9.2.2 that I’d love to get on my system. I’ve tried OS9Helper but that hasn’t worked. Was thinking I’d use MachID to change the gestalt value to another #PowerPC 601 system to try that but wanted to see if anyone else had cracked the code
