I just added another BIN/CUE disc image to "Kai's Photo Soap" on the Internet Archive. It's 80MB bigger than just the plain ISO file, which might be the Power Macintosh version of the program, but I'm not sure.

Da hatte ich nach dem #OSX eine ganze Zeit lang #Gentoo Linux drauf laufen. Das hat mir am Anfang echt viele graue Haare gebracht. 🧓🍏🐧
Aber last not least lief es dann sehr flott auf der alten Kiste, bis mit dann das ständige Kompilieren zuviel wurde und ich die Hardware verkaufte.

Früher war der #PowerMac und dann der #MacPro die maximal leistungsfähige Kiste, bei der alles zugänglich, austausch- und aufrüstbar war. Der Rechner, den man als Power User haben wollte. Ich habe immer noch einen bis zum Rand ausgespeckten MacPro 5,1 (von 2010!) im Einsatz, den wahrscheinlich am besten designten Computer aller Zeiten. Dann kam der Tischmülleimer, der komplett überteuerte 7,1 und der M2-PowerMac, der so unflexibel wie ein Mac Studio, nur ein einem deutlich größeren Gehäuse, war.

I'm running late, but I am enjoying reading all of this #Marchintosh stuff. It's making me feel that I should poke my own PowerMac with a stick, too.
I have a Graphite PowerMac with dual 450 MHz G4s and a clean install of OS 10.4.6. I am also nearly entirely unfamiliar with this era of Macs. Is there a safe and reasonable way to get applications on here over the Internet anymore? Or am I stuck with ferrying software over at USB 1.1 speeds?

So, planning on participating in #MARCHintosh this year -- broke my old #PowerMac #G3 out of storage, and it's sitting on my desk... But the only monitor I can find with a VGA socket doesn't have a power adapter... So that's the last missing piece...
The plan for this year is to back up the internal IDE drives to a CF->IDE adapter, then image the disks and throw them onto my backup server (ZFS zraid3!) for safekeeping. I have a 128GB CF card, but only 70GB of drives... So with the rest, I'll try and mirror some archives from MacintoshGarden, etc.

Y a-t-il des passionné.e.s d’anciens ordinateurs #Apple sur #Grenoble ? Je donne un #PowerMac G4 400MHz avec son écran cathodique. Il manque le disque dur et l’alimentation originale a été remplacée avec une alimentation de PC. J’avais monté un convertisseur DC/DC pour obtenir les 28V pour l’écran. C’est une très très belle machine, mais je ne l’utilise pas et elle prend trop de place chez moi. #retrocomputing EDIT : merci beaucoup ! L'ordinateur ira dans des excellentes mains !

@janmontag Der PowerMac G5 ist einfach toll! Ich hatte jahrelang den Intel Nachfolger, den Mac Pro 4,1 in seinem großen Aluminium Tower. Das Design war einfach zeitlos schön. Hab inzwischen nur noch einen Mac mini M4 als einzigen Mac übrig. Der hat mittlerweile aber vermutlich mehr Leistung als der alte, große Mac Pro.

Ok, had a weekend off and relaxed yesterday night doing some retro computing.
Installed #MacOSXServer #Tiger on the old #PowerMac #G5. Luckily I remembered that this machine does boot from a USB pen drive when ones uses the right commands in #OpenFirmware.Services started: #blojsom and the #WebObjects server.
