CW: Setting up a new laptop at work
- #Nextcloud connected
- links to config files created in ~/
- #Emacs compiled, light cleaning of init.el to make sure everything is operational
- #i3wm setup
- transferred gpg keys
- data directory copied to ~/ (static stuff that's too big to keep on Nextcloud)
- #firefox installed and profile syncedStill to do:
- backup the old ~/ drive 'just in case' I missed something
- chase down the missing applets and notification bits and bobs that i3 requires
- setup the work VPN
- find a hub or dongle or something so I can plug more than two USBA devices in at a time
- figure out which of my tweaks will break my personal laptop, and sort out a more robust way to share only *some* of my configFailures:
- #powerline refuses to behave on this particular #Ubuntu 24.04 installation, so I've fallen back on my bespoke #Bash prompt -

@james There is a standard for ethernet over powerline. It's called #Powerline or #HomePlug #AV2. Also, the reason they use data-over-powerline is that it removes one level of complexity. The devices no longer need a #wifi adapter to work. For instance, in the #US some cable routers (#COAX into the home, then #ethernet to the wifi #adapter) also provide that ethernet over #Powerline.
If the wifi adapter dies or breaks, the internet is still available to #Powerline devices.

Ich möchte im #Wintergarten mit dem #FireTV-Stick Filme gucken. Der #WLAN-Empfang ist doof. #Powerline funktioniert dort nicht. Ich habe bereits einen #Ethernet-Adapter für den Stick hier liegen und 30 Meter Cat5-Flachkabel.
Kann mich aber nicht aufraffen ein kleines Loch zu bohren und das Kabel zu verlegen.
