  6. Great talks on All About the Place yesterday. Three on Stoke and the Potteries. My grandfather was a collier, but many of my family worked on the pot banks. New fact learnt - the term pot hole comes from when farmers, unable to work the poor soil, would dig out the clay from the roads to make coarse pots, literally creating a pot hole.
