  1. Final Revolutionary Potluck

Heemraadspark, Rotterdam, zaterdag 5 september om 12:00 CEST

The final Revolutionary Potluck (for now) will be Saturday 05/09 from 12 onwards at 📍Heemraadspark, Rotterdam - Middle of the park, by the Apples statue

💥 After 4 amazing editions where so many new friends, thoughts, and plans have been made across different groups, people, and cities, we want to go all out for the last edition. So we ask if you want to bring any vegan food/drinks, friends, flags, chairs, toys, instruments, stickers, or books. Lets see all of eachother from the movement in Rotterdam one last time before it starts to get cold!

😸 Feel free to share this online and invite all your friends. We plan to have an open mic so you can get to know local initiatives and hear about whats going on in the city politically.
(The afterparty will be at the anarcho punk festival Slipperfest in Dordrecht! Food not Bombs will also be present, see www.popcentrale.nl/event/slipperfest-2/ for more info).

"Come discover the simple, satisfying art of making kvass! Kvass is a tangy, traditional fermented drink with roots in Eastern European foodways. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn accessible techniques for fermenting with ingredients common to Maine winters like bread, storage fruit, or root vegetables. Best of all, you’ll leave with your own jar of bubbling kvass to ferment at home!

    REGISTER for free.

We’ll start by sharing a potluck meal, then gather around the table to learn, make, and connect. It’s a perfect way to deepen your food skills, meet others passionate about local food, and warm up a January afternoon with good company.

    What to Bring:

A dish to share for the potluck.
A clean quart-sized jar with a tight-fitting lid (for taking your kvass home).
Your curiosity! All experience levels are warmly welcome.

  8. Waterloo Region Climate Collaborative Potluck, 6:30pm on Thursday 8 January 2026 at REEP House

    Happy New Year everyone

We hope this season has been full of fun and family (as well as snow). WRCC is starting off the new year with an IN PERSON only potluck celebration. Our summer potluck was a huge success, and REEP House will keep us warm and dry as we eat, network, share successes, and think about the future.

IN-PERSON ONLY at REEP House, 20 Mill Street in Kitchener. Please come unscented.

If you are able, please bring a vegetarian or vegan potluck dish to share (with serving utensils); and if you are able, your own dishes and beverage (water is available).

WRCC continues to grow and evolve, and we welcome your input on how we help facilitate working together to achieve our mutual goals of building a just and climate resilient community. For example, our Advocacy Committee has been hard at work building a strategy to connect with other environment, sustainability, and social justice communities across the region to strategize around the October 2026 municipal elections. WRCC is making plans to facilitate collaboration both within our network, and beyond – as we are conscious of how climate connects with so many other issues in our region.

In addition to time for networking and sharing your organizations projects and events on Thursday, we hope to have initial informal conversations to gauge interest around election organizing. For those that are interested, we plan to follow up by convening a separate election-focused gathering in February.

    Happy New Year,
And hope to see you January 8th.

  9. I wrote a little tool to automate monthly potluck reminders with Ghost.

I start with a CSV with the potluck dates, path to a featured photo for that month and YouTube URL to feature in the message.

The tool schedules monthly posts 2 weeks that also go out via email, and an reminder 2 days before. The messages also mention the upcoming meetings.

  14. #potluck #archeology #reciprocity

"Have you ever stopped by the grocery store on your way to a dinner party to grab a bottle of wine? Did you grab the first one you saw, or did you pause to think about the available choices and deliberate over where you wanted your gift to be from?

The people who lived in western Iran around 11,000 years ago had the same idea — but in practice it looked a little different. In our latest research, my colleagues and I studied the remains of ancient feasts at Asiab in the Zagros Mountains where people gathered in communal celebration.

The feasters left behind the skulls of 19 wild boars, which they packed neatly together and sealed inside a pit within a round building. Butchery marks on the boar skulls show the animals were used for feasting, but until now we did not know where the animals came from.

By examining the microscopic growth patterns and chemical signatures inside the tooth enamel of five of these boars, we found at least some of them had been brought to the site from a substantial distance away, transported over difficult mountainous terrain. Bringing these boars to the feast — when other boars were available locally — would have taken an enormous amount of effort.

    (. . .)

We then used this information to measure the composition of enamel secreted at approximately weekly intervals. The variability in the isotopic ratios we measured suggests at least some of the wild boars used in the feast at Asiab came from considerable distance: possibly from at least 70 km, or two or more days' travel.

    (. . .)

The most likely explanation is that they were hunted in farther reaches of the region and transported to the site as contributions to the feast.

Reciprocity is at the heart of social interactions. Just like a thoughtfully chosen bottle of wine does today, those boars brought from far and wide may have served to commemorate a place, an event and social bonds through gift-giving."

  15. +* JUNE SAGE THIS SUNDAY +

Our June theme is "It's all connected - we're all connected"', and we'll be discussing all things community. Whether it's your first time or fifteenth, whether you know zero people or 50, this SAGE is for you!

In our headline session, the SAGE Gardeners will facilitate small group discussions to collectively think about what community means to us, why and how we build it, and in what ways we can show up for each other.
