A Texolex caving helmet, probably 1960s–70s, next to a modern Petzl.

The shell is resin-bonded woven textile laminate: cotton fabric soaked in phenolic resin, moulded under heat and pressure. The suspension inside was webbing and leather.

A 90,000-year-old wolverine jawbone has been pulled out of a mud bucket at Stump Cross Caverns, North Yorkshire.

Volunteers from Craven Pothole Club spotted it during excavation of a cave first discovered by the Victorians. One large canine tooth still attached.

The UIAA has warned that canyon harnesses weaken from wear and UV exposure. Canyoning's abrasive, UV-rich environment accelerates damage, unlike dry climbing. UV can halve webbing strength over 400 days.

Over 100 volunteers worked 36 hours to rescue 3 cavers from Dowber Gill last week.

The cavers planned well: entered Thursday morning with plenty of time before Storm Amy was forecast. Weather turned early, flooding their exit.
