  1. Let me just say right now that there can never be too many memes about the whole purpose of a #postmenopausal woman

  2. @thomasfuchs It seems no one told him that many #postmenopausal #women have a lot of built-up rage against the #patriarchy, a lifetime of organizational skills, and zero f's left to give about how anyone views us. Gosh...not a population I'd want to fire up...

“Sacred service roles” (Connelly, 31) such as Cult #Priestesses a way for a woman to be something other than just a wife and mother, but those positions were usually reserved for those from “prominent families” (Connelly, 31).

Young women could become #Vestals, married women could be priestesses (though those positions were usually inherited – Connelly 42), and #postmenopausal women also held positions of prominence (Connelly, 43).

  10. While I’m not enjoying a lot of the symptoms of menopause, it has brought a sense of “I don’t give a fuck what anyone thinks” and I like that

  11. Also relevant:

I’m dealing with hot flashes at night and would not be able to share a bed with another human. Last night I woke up just after 3 AM to find my blankets on the floor. Normally I throw them off me, but manage to keep them on the bed while rolling over to the cool side of the bed.

  13. And the phrase “all women” includes trans women, who do not menstruate.

(“People who menstruate” correctly excludes them from the category being discussed, which is talking about menstruation.)

  14. It was uncomfortable for me to write this post because I am from a generation that was brought up not to talk about menstruation in front of (cisgender) men.

But I did it because using inclusive terminology helps trans men and nonbinary people to get gynaecological care when they need it.

  15. *People who menstruate*

“People who menstruate” includes cis women, trans men and nonbinary people who menstruate.

It also correctly excludes post-menopausal people.

It’s only used in the context of people menstruating, not as a general term to designate all women (same applies to “pregnant people”).

  16. #introduction
I'm Trish. I'm #PostMenopausal and #Fat and #Funny. I like #RescueDogs and #Cats and #TV and #Books and #Writing and #Procrastinating and #Films and #Music and #Quizzes. I can't sing or act or tell jokes, but I pretend I can and that I could have been one of the greats if only. You know the type.

  17. CW: Beware all ye who enter: #menopause talk

Question for the #postmenopausal folks: when menstruation stopped for you, did you still get monthly cramps? Sort of like ghost cramps akin to the ghost feelings one gets when a limb is amputated, I guess. Because this is happening to me, and I'm irritated about it.
