  1. All I can say is thank goodness for this election!
I use old envelopes to write shopping lists and other notes on. But my supply has been dwindling because I don’t get many letters any more.
Week 1 of the campaign and I already have enough supply to last me several months.

  7. Here she is, contemplating life, or more importantly, why did her humans have to do a #PostalVote and deny her the opportunity of being a #dogsatpollingstations

  8. Steady queue at #Edinburgh City Chambers of people that hadn’t received their #PostalVote. Staff very helpful and didn’t take long to sort it out.

  9. For better or worse have posted my postal vote. Took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out how "Envelope A" worked,. Took me a while to spot that the lower part is actually a pocket, the layers were so close together didn't see the small gap for inserting the ballot

  10. I can tell you that I have not received a #postalVote yet and the #election is this week.

  11. I have voted! This is the very first election where it feels like my vote might actually have any impact at all. Years of living in constituencies where one candidate gets three times as many votes as anyone else (first in Labour voting areas and then Conservative voting areas) have made it feel so pointless, but there is a slight chance this 'safe seat' might fall now. The First Past the Post system needs to go, it's disenfranchising

Signature required but no voter suppressing photo ID. And I can still vote at the polling station if I want to.

  15. CW: Politics: re postal votes

I think I need to hurry up and apply for a postal vote on election day just to stop me going into a voting booth and shouting "none of the above" quite loudly. At least it would force me not to suddenly switch at the last minute based on how I feel that day. #UK #voting #PostalVote #UKPolitics #Election2024

  16. How do I #vote in the #UK if I'm on holiday on #GeneralElection day?

If you can't vote in person (like me), then you should apply for a postal vote as soon as possible. You can do this online at gov.uk/apply-postal-vote

The voting papers should then be posted to you. You get a ballot paper, an envelope to put it in so it's secret, another bit of paper which iirc you have to sign, & a pre-paid envelope to post it in.

Then you can either post back your vote in advance, or take it to the polling station on the day. And new at the recent local elections, if you take it to the polling station you have to fill in even _another_ little form!

I don't want to take off my mask in the polling station! So my work-around these days is to get a postal vote.

You still have to register to vote "ordinarily" at gov.uk, if you hadn't already - by 18 June 2024 for this next election.

Then you apply for the postal vote, by 5pm on 19 June:

  25. UK Prime Minister announces #UKParliament #UKElection for Thursday 4 July.

Has the date cynically been chosen to be in the first part of school summer holidays in Scotland (when many families may be away) and university/college summer break (many students may also be away or at home and not registered to vote there)?

Remember to register for a #PostalVote if you want or need to, and to have ID if voting in person.

  28. with #london elections coming, and all the current worries about photo id voter suppression, i'm finally #goingpostal. the form to do so was a gov.uk webform, so usability is #a11ty good! i will not however be mailing my #postalvote, but instead dropping it off at the station on polling day. this is allowed, and means you still get the physical sensation of joining in, quite possibly without the photo id requirement (voter impersonation is known to be v rare)

  29. Electoral Commission warn Oliver Mundell MSP over postal vote 'fishing'
A VOTER in Dumfries has gone to the Electoral Commission (EC) after he received a letter from Tory MSP Oliver Mundell inviting him to complete a postal vote application form and return it to his office – and not to the “preferred address” of the local Electoral Registration Officer.
