  1. Here's an idea:
Nationalize Amazon and Intelcom, merge that with Postes Canada, and combine it with that idea of doing a social check on isolated folks. Now that would be a plan!!

But no way these business guys will ever do that. They are too happy to cut public services to privatize more and more!

This is why we can't have nice things!

  2. I like the proposition to combine post delivery workers with social work to check if old citizens are ok. Like a front line of health and social workers!

But really, with the number of Amazon deliveries, don't tell me that delivering mail directly to our door everyday isn't doable!

  3. In my inbox:

"Canada Post workers on strike nationwide; Union ‘outraged and appalled’

Postal workers have walked off the job in their second nationwide strike in under a year after Ottawa announced sweeping changes to Canada Post, including the end of home mail delivery."

  4. Canada Post employees better take the deal. The company is losing money and others in Canada are not even getting raises right now. Be thankful for the job you have. The company made you a stronger offer than most Canadians think you should get. We don't need home delivery you know! Id be happy with a box at a depot. Most of you can go if that happens so think wisely folks. No support from the public here.

  5. I received a letter in the mail on the last day of postal service from Ontario Health. The letter contains a kit for colorectal cancer testing. At that point, I had no idea Canada Post would be going on strike. It's only because someone on Mastodon mentioned the strike that I knew it was happening. Shouldn't there be notifications for this kind of thing?

It's a good thing I found out about the strike or my poop sample would still be sitting in a mailbox.

In case you've never received one of these cancer screening kits, be advised that the enclosed postage-paid envelopes aren't peel-and-stick. What sort of monster decided lick-and-stick envelopes were the best choice for fecal samples?

  6. I don't remember which magazine it is, but I came across a call for submissions which only accepts stories through snail mail (odd). I guess they won't be publishing anyone from Canada. #WritingCommunity #CanadaPost #PostalStrike

  7. So, in one fell swoop, it seems from my vantage point that the #CUPW did what the banks have been trying to do for the last decade: they’ve convinced a staggering number of Canadian business to give up on cheques (and #CanadaPost) and move into the world of secure, and often instant, electronic payment.

  8. The Postal Strike won't affect you unless you rely on Canada Post for gifts. Ask friends to shop online for you and ship directly to you. Expecting cards? Switch to virtual greetings. Alternatives: malls, Amazon, non-Canada Post retailers. #postalstrike

  9. Canada's 55,000 Postal Strikers Are Refusing to Throw New Hires Under the Bus

The company wants to make new hires wait a year before they receive benefits, and to exclude them from the defined-benefit pension plan. Meanwhile the starting wage has risen only 6.7 percent since 2006.

  11. A friend of mine is one of the striking postal workers. I ran into him yesterday. Between picket line duties he is working on his music again and has a new track:

Drink It Up (feat. Dawn Treader) - Bo Gus: youtube.com/watch?v=ayGhjubu6k

Dawn Treader is also a #LdnOnt artist: linktr.ee/Dawntreader

The track is very polished and well produced. Dawn Treader's beats feel inspired by J. Dilla and Cut Chemist but definitely their own sound.

The post office is an essential service, and the workers who provide that service have good jobs because of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers. Postal jobs should remain good jobs!

  14. "There has to be a way to make Canada Post viable. It's a very important service for many Canadians and many small businesses," said Stephanie Ross, a Bathurst native and associate professor of labour relations at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ont.

CUT. THE SALARIES. OF THE CANADA POST TOP BRASS.

    How fucking hard is it???

Why is the CEO of Canada Post making over $400,000 A YEAR? WHY IS THAT NECESSARY?

15 VICE PRESIDENTS GET 300k EACH??? A YEAR??????

This is severe fund mismanagement if I've ever seen it.

  15. Seeing a lot of handwringing in the news about the effect of the #PostalStrike on consumer’s holiday shopping and possible future damage to the corporation as folks switch to other carriers, but virtually nothing about what the employees are striking for.

  16. #CanadaPost workers are on #strike after failing to reach a negotiated agreement with their employer.

#Canadian #Union of #PostalWorkers says approximately 55,000 workers are striking, claiming little progress has been made in the bargaining process.

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers issued a 72-hour strike notice earlier in the week, saying it's been asking for fair wages, safer working conditions and other improvements over nearly a year of bargaining.

"We still believe we can achieve negotiated collective agreements, but Canada Post must be willing to resolve our new and outstanding issues," the union said in a statement.
