The talk recordings from #positconf2023 are now live on Youtube!
A highlight of the conference for me was from Nicole Jardine and Dan Snow from the Cook County Assessor's Office on using #rstats tidymodels to help allocate $16B in property taxes. It was amazing to get a peek into their model development process and learn about all of the factors they keep in mind along the way. (I do owe them a couple features in our packages.🙂)
Their talk is available here: https://youtu.be/1_GivgmZYgM?si=qYWsayb2WgzNE_GP

Here's a video of my #positconf2023 talk on using #rstats to compute prediction intervals using conformal inference!

@load_dependent @scheidegger introduced Typst support in Quarto 1.4 in his #PositConf2023 talk. Here’s his GitHub repo for the poster example https://github.com/cscheid/2023-posit-conf-talk/tree/main/demos/poster. So cool! 😎

Anyone got any random nuggets of knowledge they learned at #PositConf2023 that they're still delighted by now? Mine came from @andyteucher and was using Ctrl + . in RStudio to go straight to a function definition! #rstats

This weekend I finally got around to deploying a Shiny app wih webR! I've finally put together (almost) all of my #TidyTuesday plots into one place and it made it easier to browse based on the packages used! 📦
You can view the webR-powered app here: https://nrennie.github.io/tidytuesday-shiny-app/
(may take a while to load - not advised to try on mobile!)
Code on GitHub: https://github.com/nrennie/tidytuesday-shiny-app

@cosima_meyer Truly inspired! Had to do the idea justice.
(this is probably the first use of sf::st_random() to generate pepperonis inside a pizza)
-
In the spirit of all things "Wrigley" with #PositConf2023 in Chicago this year, here's Illinois rendered as a piece of gum in #RStats with #rayrender (and my new in-development package for turning polygons into 3D meshes, #rayskeleton). Data from spData and transformed with the {sf} package and turned into a raymesh object (3D mesh structure provided by the #rayvertex package).
-
@rOpenSci @Drmowinckels the reason because all this issues disappear is because CRAN create binaries.
When you have packages that never will get to CRAN because you can’t made them smaller you can use #runiverse and you will have your binaries.
-
@Drmowinckels talking about #packagedevelopment and #opensourcesoftware at #positconf2023 - it's a magical talk ✨🙌

If you're interested in discussing #parallel processing in #RStats at #PositConf2023, please let me know or reply here. I'm hoping we can have an informal hangout during Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday to discuss what's missing, what's new and what's on the roadmap for parallelization in R. It doesn't have to be on just #Futureverse
(I'll arrive late Sunday Sept 17 and leave early Thursday Sept 21)
-
posit::conf(2023)! is getting closer and I am getting so excited about meeting old and new acquaintances in person!
If you want to learn more about how #runiverse has helped me and my users I'll be speaking in an awesome package dev session on Tuesday Sep 19 3:20 PM - 3:40 PM CDT (10:20 PM - 10:40 PM CEST).
