The beautiful village of Portpatrick in the Rhins of Galloway, which looks out over the North Channel towards Northern Ireland. Its origins date back some 500 years and until the 1860s it was a major ferry port. More pics and info: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/portpatrick/portpatrick/index.html

"No food or icecream inside please!" #sign
I guess other 'non-food' treats are permitted at least!

#ThePortpatrickHotel is enormous and overlooks a good chunk of #Portpatrick in #Scotland and their protected harbour. Boats commonly have to raft up with each other as there isn't sufficient dedicated room for each vessel. I captured this after I arrived that evening while it was getting dark.

Whistlestop Scotland: Portpatrick
A beautiful coastal village in the Rhins of Galloway in south-west Scotland, from the clifftops of the Southern Upland Way you can see the coastline of Northern Ireland on a clear day. The lighthouse at sweeping Killintringan Bay stands guard in all weathers but is particularly spectacular at sunset and in the grip of a wintry storm.

A VIRTUAL TOUR OF SCOTLAND
We travel 7 miles north-west by road to Portpatrick, a stunningly attractive village wrapped around a fascinating harbour. Portpatrick is nearly as far west as you can go in southern Scotland, and nearly as far south as you can go in western Scotland.
