  1. This portable monitor is a 13.3 inch foldable display (with a $1299 price tag)

We’ve seen smartphones, tablets, and laptops with foldable displays in recent years. Much less common are monitors with foldable screens, probably for good reason. But a company called Aura Displays is still banking on the idea with a new portable monitor with a foldable screen.

The Aura Single Flex Pro (Gen 1) is a 13.3 inch OLED display that you can fold in half so that it takes up less […]

  2. MSI's Pro MP165 E6 portable monitor promises 'simple, affordable utility.' Because sometimes you just need another screen to complain at, not one that costs more than your first car. Is 'no-frills' the new 'luxury' for portable tech, or just an excuse to skimp? cnet.com/tech/computing/msi-pr #PortableMonitor #TechReview #Gadgets #Computing

  3. Sometimes you just need something that works and doesn't break the bank. The KYY K3 portable monitor might be 'mediocre,' but its portability and price make it a solid option. What's a tech compromise you've happily made that paid off?

  4. A portable monitor that's *only* good if you want wireless? Sounds like a feature that was added for the marketing bullet points, not actual usability. We've all been there with hardware that promises the moon and delivers... a slightly dimmer bulb.

What's the most overhyped 'feature' you've seen in a tech product?

After introducing the FlipGo and FlipGo Lite dual-screen portable monitors in 2024, JSAUX  is back with a new FlipGo Horizon. The Bigme B13 is a portable monitor with a 13.3 inch, 3200 x 2400 pixel display featuring a 30 Hz refresh rate. There’s nothing unusual about that, but what makes this little screen stand out is the type of display technology it uses.

  12. Lilbits: Tariffs and tech prices, a 13.3 inch color ePaper monitor, and a dual-screen rugged phone

So it’s an interesting time to be writing about weird gadgets produced by small Chinese companies because I have no idea if the price tags they’re advertising this week are going to be the actual prices for long now that the Trump administration has imposed a global tariffs on imports to the United States. Some of the places that are seeing the highest tariffs are places like China, Taiwan, […]

Dasung is a Chinese company that makes E Ink tablets, monitors, and category-defying devices like the Dasung Link. Recently the company has been taking aim at one of the shortcomings of E Ink displays: low screen refresh rates.

  15. MINISFORUM MDSA156 is a $231 portable dual-screen monitor

MINISFORUM is probably best known for making min PCs, but one of the company’s latest products is a display… or rather two displays. The MINISFORUM MDSA156 is a portable dual-screen monitor with two displays connected by a laptop-like hinge, allowing you to fold the device in half for easy transportation and storage and unfold it when you want plenty of screen space.

It’s also one of the most affordable devices in the growing category of portable dual-screen displays. Earlier this year I noted that this type of product used to sell for $500 and up, but prices for some recent models had fallen below the $400 mark. The MINISFORUM MDSA156 costs just over half that much: it’s available from the MINISFORUM website for $231.

For that price you get a device with two 15.6 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixel IPS LCD displays with up to 250 nits brightness. They’re connected by a hinge that allows you to either position that one is above the other, lie them flat on a table, or tilt them so that they’re nearly back-to-back in a tent-like configuration so that you and the person sitting across from you can each see one screen.

It’s sort of like having a single 23.8 inch, 1920 x 2160 pixel display with a big line through the center. But while you could theoretically expand a single application across both displays, this sort of design really comes in handy for multitasking, allowing you to position one app or set of apps on the top screen and a different set on the bottom.

The MDSA156 also has a pair of stereo speakers built in, two USB Type-C ports that can be used for power and video input, an HDMI input, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

MINISFORUM says you can use a single USB Type-C cable to connect the monitor to a computer for both power and data… assuming your PC outputs enough power over USB. Since the system is designed for use with 30W or higher power supplies, if the screen flickers or has other problems, you can use one USB-C port for power and the other (or the HDMI port) for video input.

The MINISFORUM MDSA156 has a metal body with an integrated kickstand. The company says that the whole thing measures about 0.95 inches thick when folded in half, and weighs either 2.2 pounds or 3.5 pounds (depending on whether you believe the 2.2 pound weight listed in a promotional picture of the 3.5 pound weight listed in a spec sheet on the MINISFORUM website).

  16. Dasung Paperlike Color portable 12 inch E Ink monitor is now available (but it’s expensive)

The Dasung Paperlike Color (12 inch) is a portable touchscreen monitor with a 12 inch, 2560 x 1600 pixel display, USB Type-C ports for power and video input, and a compact design: the monitor weighs 439 grams (about 15.5 ounces).
But while most portable monitors have LCD displays (and a few have OLED screens), Dasung’s new model has a […]

  17. VAIO Vision+ 14 portable monitor weighs just 325 grams (11.5 ounces)

Portable monitors come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, and capabilities these days. You can find models with dual screens, ePaper displays, touchscreens, and all sorts of other features.
But while it’s nice to have plenty of options when looking for a second screen for your laptop, tablet, phone, or game console, that’s still one more thing to carry […]
