ANTHONY HOPKINS: Margam-born star tells a tale from hell in first trailer for Guy Ritchie’s Wife & Dog
Sir Anthony Hopkins tells the story of a man who dug his way down to hell in the first trailer for Guy Ritchie’s new thriller, Wife & Dog.
The Margam-born actor, 88, plays the head of the wealthy Fairbank family and narrates the teaser, released by the film’s makers Black Bear last week.
The film is in cinemas on 19 February 2027.
In the trailer, Hopkins tells of a man thrown into a deep pit who, unable to climb out, kept digging down until he found himself in hell.
His daughter, played by Rosamund Pike, asks what the man found there. His answer: “He found me.”

Guy Ritchie returns to the backstabbing British upper classes
Ritchie wrote and directed the film. The only plot released so far is a one-line synopsis: “The relentless greed of the Fairbank family and their associates fuels betrayal and murder in the battle for succession.”
When Variety reported the casting in 2024, it said the film would take Ritchie back to the backstabbing world of the British upper classes he explored in The Gentlemen.

At 88, Port Talbot’s most famous son is not slowing down
Wife & Dog is one of several films lined up for Hopkins. Earlier this month he signed to play the villain in sci-fi thriller 2048, as the architect of an authoritarian regime in a ruined future.
He has also finished Eyes In The Trees, a reimagining of H.G. Wells’s The Island of Doctor Moreau, which is in post-production.
In the spring he was back in Wales filming the Dylan Thomas adaptation A Visit to Grandpa’s with Catherine Zeta-Jones.
In August, his first album for Decca Classics, Life Is A Dream, went straight in at number one on the Official Specialist Classical Chart.
The album draws on his childhood in Margam. One piece, Bracken Road, paints the streets, meadows and mountains around his 1940s home.
February is shaping up as a Hopkins month in Swansea as well, with the first stage version of The Silence of the Lambs reaching Swansea Grand Theatre and John Partridge taking on Hannibal Lecter, the role that won Hopkins his first Oscar.

Over ‘300 skilled jobs’ secured for Port Talbot Steel works green transition plan
Tata Steel say the new jobs in the local supply chain will be part of new contracts signed with Bridgend-based companies Darlow Lloyd & Sons, Wernick Buildings, and Swansea-based business, Andrew Scott Ltd.
Darlow Lloyd & Sons will play a key role in the initial phases of the project, overseeing excavation, recycling, infrastructure, and drainage works essential to the site’s transition to Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) steelmaking.
Director, Rhys Lloyd, said: “We are delighted to announce this partnership which will boost employment across Neath Port Talbot and lay the foundation for future growth across the manufacturing sector.
“Our involvement in this transformation is not only a privilege, but fundamental to maintaining our strong presence and heritage at the site.
“This collaboration safeguards our experienced workforce and allows us to appoint local experts with transferable skillsets to this once-in-a-lifetime project.”

As work progresses, we aim to provide further opportunities for individuals in surrounding communities to help deliver this exciting vision.”

“90% of the workers we employ to build this impressive space will be from communities surrounding the steelworks – spanning Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Cardiff – allowing us to nurture and grow regional talent.”

Plans revealed for Port Talbot eco-school
Planning consultants Asbri Planning have released the details as part of a pre-planning consultation with the local community, ahead of the council submitting a formal planning application.
The proposals call for the demolition of the existing primary school and Tir Morfa Centre, and construction of a new school incorporating community facilities, a sports pitch and play areas, as well as highway and access improvements to the site.
The school will be packed with energy efficient technology including a ground source heat pump system and photovoltaic panels.
Plans say the use of carbon intensive materials will be discouraged where practicable in favour of natural and renewable materials and the use of recycled materials, where appropriate, will be encouraged.
It’s proposed that the new school will include a Welsh Language Immersion Unit and Community Hub delivering a range of educational and community services provided by Neath Port Talbot Council, partner organisations and voluntary groups.
AdvertisementThe school design is part of the Welsh Government’s ‘Sustainable Schools Challenge’ and have been designed with help from school pupils.
Neath Port Talbot Council declined to comment on the proposal until a decision on planning approval has been made.
The consultation on the plans for new school is open on Asbri Planning’s website until 16 April 2025.

The school will be packed with energy efficient technology including a ground source heat pump system and photovoltaic panels.
Plans say the use of carbon intensive materials will be discouraged where practicable in favour of natural and renewable materials and the use of recycled materials, where appropriate, will be encouraged.
It’s proposed that the new school will include a Welsh Language Immersion Unit and Community Hub delivering a range of educational and community services provided by Neath Port Talbot Council, partner organisations and voluntary groups.
AdvertisementThe school design is part of the Welsh Government’s ‘Sustainable Schools Challenge’ and have been designed with help from school pupils.
Neath Port Talbot Council declined to comment on the proposal until a decision on planning approval has been made.
The consultation on the plans for new school is open on Asbri Planning’s website until 16 April 2025.
